Spring ’14 Trend To Try: Neoteric Neoprene

March 6, 2014 • Fashion Blog, Trends

No longer just for scuba wear, Neoprene is the hotter than hot fabric for Spring ’14. Neoprene is technically polychloroprene which is a type of synthetic rubber. You may have noticed it appearing on fashion runways a few years ago, but there is one very good reason it seems to be everywhere for Spring ’14. It’s slimming! If you have been afraid to try anything so body conscious because you are concerned it will highlight every bump and bulge, give neoprene a try. Like scuba gear (or Spanx) –  it sucks everything in!
Neoprene has a structured, clean, modern and almost futuristic vibe that we can’t get enough of. Apparently designers can’t either because everyone from Stella McCartney to Peter Som to Proenza Schouler have used it in their Spring collections. Another beautiful attribute about Neoprene is that it is almost seasonless. You can wear it in the cooler months because it’s insulated and in the warmer months, if you stick to skirts, shorts and sleeveless dresses you can wear it as well.Look for athletic and wet suit details like exposed zippers and smartly placed panels for extra slimming power. Be warned, if you sweat a lot you will be washing it constantly – if you catch my drift. Neoprene isn’t expensive, but the dry cleaning bills could be. It’s worth the trade-off…don’t you agree?
