Ralph Lauren Receives James Smithson Bicentennial Medal
Ralph Lauren will be awarded the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal in Washington, D.C., in June. Along with being awarded, 15 other people will be taking an oath of allegiance to become U.S. citizens. Lauren will receive the medal in honor of his lifetime contributions to American entrepreneurship, artistry, creativity and vision. Besides being a major influence in the fashion industry Lauren also took a leadership role in the preservation of the Star Spangled Banner and has also donated $13 million to Save America’s Treasures campaign.
Karl Lagerfeld Designing Future Hotel in Macau
Just after staging his Chanel ready to wear show in a Chanel supermarket Karl Lagerfeld has signed a deal to design a 270 room hotel in Macau, China. It is expected to open in 2017, and located in a 20 story tower as part of the future Lisboa Palace luxury development. The hotel will be styled in a modernized 19th century feel. Lagerfeld has joined names like: Giorgio Armani, Bulgari and Baccarat in efforts to branch into hotel design.
Will Leather Store Opening in New York
Will Leather Goods will be opening their third freestanding store in New York in April. The Oregon based accessory brand has one store in California and another in Oregon but is branching out to New York to open their brand to the international consumer. The company known for their leather belts and bags are already sold to retailers such as Barneys New York , Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. Along with his accessories William Adler will also carry home goods at the new store along with an espresso bar with complementary drinks.
