MAC Opens Pro Products Store

MAC Cosmetics has opened its first professional flagship store and third US flagship in San Francisco’s Union Square. The space features MAC’s professional lineup of products alongside the beauty brand’s usual makeup lines. It’s meant to to cater to both professionals and makeup enthusiasts interested in the high-technology products. “The pro products that we have are really for makeup artists. They are designed for the industry. Especially in the city of San Francisco, because we have a high level of pro makeup artists there,” MAC Cosmetics global brand president Karen Buglisi Weiler said. She also mentioned that the ordinary beauty customer isn’t normally exposed to this, and that it’s an interesting way to educate them about professional makeup. The new MAC pro flagship is divided into four zones, which house newly launched lines and signature collections, makeup stations, professional products, and a lash bar.

Target Plans Changes in Beauty

Target plans to overhaul its beauty offering by renovating this spring. 
Starting this month, 750 Target stores will have new skin care products, one of which is Laneige, Amore Pacific’s South Korean skin care line. The line will be exclusive to Target in the US. Other brands available for purchase will include MD Complete, Borghese Age Defying Cellulare Complex, Vichy, La Roche-Posay, 29 by Lydia Mondavi, and Own Beauty. The renovation features brighter lighting, signage highlighting product attributes, updated shelving, and a Beauty Concierge kiosk. “I’m very excited about the future for beauty at Target. We are continuing to work on upgrading the in-store experience, continuing to introduce brands [customers] can’t find elsewhere…and upgrading our assortment with service not found in our value channel,” 
said Christina Hennington, vice president of beauty and personal care at Target.

Original Penguin Opens Flagship in NYC

Original Penguin has opened a flagship store in East Village designed to appeal to the Millennial customer. 
The store, located at 654 Broadway at Bond Street, replaces the smaller store on Greene Street in SoHo. The new space features an updated design aesthetic that includes wood accents and leather seating. The iconic brand’s new flagship will carry its signature Earl Polo shirt, shoes, socks, belts, ties, hats, sunglasses, and bags. “This is the first store with this look and feel. It’s a big shift away from the post-modern blues and greens that we have in other stores. It’s a contemporary interpretation that is clean and streamlined,” said James Ha, vice president of marketing at Original Penguin.

Christian Dior Makeup Has New Creative Director

Peter Philips is the new creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup. “His talent and his unique and modern vision of beauty are recognized around the world,” said Claude Martinez, president and CEO of Parfums Christian Dior. Philips, who previously worked at Chanel as the global creative director for makeup, said, 
“I am honored by the responsibilities that are entrusted to me by Christian Dior makeup, whose values, savoir-faire and innovation I respect.”
