As soon as we set our clocks forward, I start thinking about spring hair. Start planning now, it can take a new cut or color to get in the right frame of mind. I’m here to help. In fact, I have gone back into our files and perused the runway from Spring ’14. So there is no time like the present to break down the hair trends you can expect to see this Spring/Summer ’14:
Bobs are nothing new. However, they are having a revival and it would seem every celebrity is now chopping their hair into an edgy bob which is fine by us. Go for short fringes with choppy bangs. If you are brave and like to experiment with bold colors, go for it! This is the time to do it. If you can’t quite commit, try a wig. Seriously.

The braid isn’t going anywhere just yet, however fishtails are out and messy braids are in. This is great news for those of use who were never really neat at braiding anyway. Either matte or glossy works. Just make sure to get some goo to keep it in place.

This hair style is shiny on top and wavy on the bottom. Hair should be ultra glossy (not greasy), slicked back and gelled flat to the head and then cascading into matte waves or a low ponytail. The objective is to make sure there is a contrast in texture. You will need oil and either a gel or super strength finishing spray to get the look.

Got a headband? You don’t need a tennis racquet to conquer this chic sporty look. From stretchy headbands to visors the goal is to look luxe. To get the look right you want the headband or visor positioned more towards to front of your head and covering just the tips of your ears. Keep it looking less contrived with messy hair either up or down.

The Extreme Side Part
You might have noticed the androgyny movement is becoming more mainstream and not just for Tilda Swinton anymore. The 30s-inspired comb-over carries over into the next season (Fall ’14) so master this uber-sexy look now. Part your hair so it matches up to the point where your eyebrow tapers.

The Dreamy Updo
The key to this style is that it should look effortless (read almost messy) – the opposite of Joan Collins from Dynasty. Allow loose pieces to frame your face. Use a mattifying powder to achieve the look.

Flower Child & Gold Gild
Either flowers or gold details could be found wrapped around ponytails or placed haphazardly in updos. It should not look contrived. Embellish Away!
Seen at: Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, Anna Sui, Dolce & Gabbana, Lela Rose, Honor
The beauty of mermaid waves this season is that they can be either dry or wet, but they must be glossy and parted in the center. Invest in a really good shine serum.

Jump out of bed and go! Fresh from the sheets locks are huge for Spring/Summer ’14 and the look carries through the Fall. You want to look undone but not like you have been living on the streets. Try using a little pomade or go a day or two without washing your hair.

The Low Pony
Either matte or glossy and with or without an ornate holder – just make sure it cascades from the nape of your neck.Seen at: Jason Wu, Vera Wang, Helmut Lang, Haider Ackermann
Think Frida Kahlo (hair, not unibrow). Braids that coil around the top of the head to resemble crowns will make you feel royal.
