Dee Hilfiger Designs Luxe Handbags
Dee Hilfiger has unveiled her new line of handbags, called Dee Ocleppo. The designer and wife of Tommy Hilfiger is focusing on luxury for her new line. Although Hilfiger has designed affordable bags in the past, she wasn’t satisfied. “I had this dream that I wanted to do it in Italy, so I went over and started making samples for myself,” Hilfiger said. The bags, which have reversible covers made of exotic skins and furs, impressed her friend Marigay McKee, then the chief merchant of Harrods. She placed an order for spring 2014 on the spot. “I wasn’t pitching. I just wanted her advice. She was like, ‘Great, I love them, I’ll take them.’ It caught me a little off guard. All of a sudden, I found myself in business. It wasn’t exactly how I expected to do it, but I dove in headfirst,” recalls Hilfiger. The designer is currently getting her fall collection ready in her showroom in the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. For fall, Hilfiger’s bags will be available in materials like fox fur, python, crocodile, ostrich and suede. The bags are sold with the reversible jackets, giving customers three different looks in one. “There is nothing like them. You can find exotic bags, but not with reversible covers. It’s like three bags in one,” noted Hilfiger. The line, which ranges from $595 for a clutch to $12,000 for a tote, will hit stores in early September.
Bulgari Debuts New Fragrance
Bulgari is unveiling a new eau de toilette inspired by India. Called Omnia Indian Garnet, it will hit stores in April worldwide and is the newest addition to the luxury brand’s line of Omnia scents. “We have often explored India in our jewelry, but less so in fragrances. This was intended as an homage to India, in a very upscale way, but without lapsing into caricature,” said Bulgari Parfums managing director Valeria Manini. Top notes of the scent include mandarin and saffron, with a base of Indian tuberose, osmanthus, Indian woods, and amber. “The spark behind this creation was a Bulgari jewel, ‘Capriccio a Portofino,’ a one-of-a-kind necklace with splendid mandarin garnets carved in the shape of leaves,” said Firmenich perfumer Alberto Morillas. The ad campaign, shot by Mikael Jansson, shows model Edita Vilkeviciute getting ready for an evening out in a red dress and Bulgari jewels.
Mara Hoffman Collaborates with Havaianas
In what is definitely a match made in designer collaboration heaven, Havaianas and Mara Hoffman have partnered to design a limited edition collection of flip-flops. The line will feature four colorful prints from Hoffman’s recent resort collection. “I’ve been a huge fan of Havaianas for years so it was an amazing opportunity to see them in some of my favorite prints. Both brands truly embrace beach culture in a fun and colorful way,” said Hoffman. “Both of our consumers seek style and comfort and the partnership was a completely natural fit for the two brands,” said Carlos Zepeda, vice president of marketing for Havaianas US. The Havaianas + Mara Hoffman Collection will be available April 1st at Bloomingdales and online on both the Mara Hoffman and Havaianas websites.
