The Digital Life of Diane von Furstenberg

The designer in the midst of a year-long 40th anniversary celebration of her wrap dress is watching the brand’s latest digital initiative unfold. Dubbed “Journey of a Dress,” it’s a kind of a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” for fashion: A series of influencers around the world will style one of von Furstenberg’s New Jeanne Two dresses in black and white chain link and document the experience via social media. Von Furstenberg is tech savvy she admitted that she sleeps with her iPad. But when it comes to social media, she mixes up her approach. For example, she used to tweet a lot but is now favoring Instagram.

Free People Makes Hong Kong Debut

Free People today will unveil its first in-store shop in China, a 650-square-foot unit at Lab Concept Queensway Plaza in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong shop, which is a partnership with Lab Concept, is part of the brand’s broader push into Asia. Last month, Free People opened three stores in Japan. The shop-in-shop will carry the brand’s complete clothing line and intimates collection. The Hong Kong shop will stay true to the Free People aesthetic, with colorful decor and the handmade details the brand is known for, while incorporating elements specific to the space.Free People in March opened freestanding retail locations across Japan, in Kyoto, Osaka and Funabashi City, Chiba.

Gisele Bündchen, H&M Link Up Again

Gisele Bündchen, who tested her pipes for H&M last year in tandem with its fall fashion campaign, is doing an encore as the face and voice of its summer ads. The Brazilian model with the endless legs dons swimwear and Seventies-style bohemian dresses in H&M’s print campaign, photographed by Lachlan Bailey. She then went into the studio with French music producer and DJ Bob Sinclar to voice a cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.”The print and outdoor campaign breaks in May, when the song and video will be available for download.
