Atelier Swarovski Debuts Fine Jewelry

Atelier Swarovski is entering the realm of fine jewelry with help from Matthew Campbell Laurenza, who first collaborated with the jewelry brand two years ago. The designer’s beautiful collection is called Jeweled Garden and is what he calls “wearable art.” Flowers and insects adorned with Swarovski gemstones adorn both fine jewelry and small sculptures. “The theme is a parallel universe to our reality where insects and flora rule the world and humans are just spectators. I played with many direct organic forms and shapes to design pieces, which are meant to appear as if they were picked from a magical garden to adorn the wearer,” said Campbell Laurenza. The collection is comprised of eight rings, four bracelets and three necklaces and is currently carried exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and the stones used in the pieces include sapphires, amethyst, garnets and topaz, all set in 18-karat gold.

Yahoo Taps Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown, who is already chief creative officer of her makeup brand, has signed on as Yahoo’s beauty editor-in-chief. New content will debut in June and will include product recommendations, videos, beauty tips and advice. “This is not going to be the Bobbi Brown Cosmetics channel,” the humble Brown said. “I am approaching this as a journalist. I’ve appeared on Good Morning America and the Today show for the last 15 years and I’ve never taken the opportunity to just push my own brand. This will be a brand-agnostic site.” Brown hopes to empower and inspire other women. “Beauty isn’t about looking perfect; it’s about celebrating your individuality. Beauty for me is lifestyle, empowerment, what you eat- so many things,” she emphasized. “They’ve given me free rein to create a modern platform, and I’m very excited about teaching women and learning new things myself. Yahoo has more than 800 million users, and it’s a great opportunity to get smart, approachable news out to a wide variety of women,” Brown added. We can’t wait to see the new beauty page!

Jones Group Bought by Sycamore Partners

The New York private-equity firm Sycamore Partners has finished a $2.2 billion acquisition of Jones Group, whose brands include Stuart Weitzman, Nine West and Anne Klein. Sycamore co-founder Stefan Kaluzny will likely make a profit of $2.5 billon for the company with his second major buyout. The firm is rumored to continue buying more companies in the future. “It’s safe to say there are more deals to come. They like out-of-favor companies, and they’re definitely value-driven,” said a source close to Sycamore. It’s also speculated that Jones Group’s longtime CEO Wes Card is expected to retire.
