April 15, 2014 • Chicago, Events, Fashion, Fashion Blog

I met CUSP Fashion Director Caroline Maguire at Neiman Marcus Michigan Avenue.

On Thursday, April 10, at Neiman Marcus on North Michigan Avenue fashionistas gathered for a style chat and fashion presentation with the fashion director of CUSP, Caroline Maguire. As fashion director it is Maguire’s responsibility to find the best fashion-forward and on-trend items each season with the buyers for CUSP. At the event attendees were treated to music, small bites, beverages, make-up touch ups by Tom Ford Beauty highlighted with a fashion presentation. Caroline Maguire showed off the latest spring trends available at CUSP now. She said the CUSP girl is, “fashionable, fabulous, and fierce. She sees what’s on the street and wants the look.”

The fashion presentation featured looks curated by Maguire showcasing “the color of the season” Pink, along with individual trends including: Denim, Inseparable Separates, and Art Matters. Looks in Pink showed styles from a bohemian maxi dresses by the legendary Diane von Furstenberg to a sporty chic ensemble feminized by a L’Agence jacket. Denim is making a come-back in more than just jeans. One denim piece presented by 3 x1 was a throwback to the 70’s but still fresh and modern.

Rebecca Taylor Skirt and Top

The Inseparable Separates segment of the presentation showed off coordinates. A popular trend in the British countries and now in the U.S., it is an outfit where the top and bottom match perfectly either in a pattern or a solid color. At the event Maguire presented a Rebecca Taylor skirt and top as an example.

Art Matters showed how to mix patterns and prints without having the look seem disconnected and not flowing. Maguire explains, “The trick is to have the patterns in the same color pallet.” Maguire showed this trend by pairing a Tibi black and white striped dress with a snake skin patterned Stella McCartney bomber jacket.

When asked about some of the designers for CUSP, the fashion director told me she is impressed by Alexander Wang, “He really stepped out of the zone. He usually does black and white but he did more feminine looks and color for spring and fall.”
