Nicholas Kirkwood Pops-Up in Japan
Nicholas Kirkwood has opened his first space in Tokyo, Japan. The pop-up store was designed by Mehrnoosh Khadivi of Craftwork Studio and will remain open until May 27th. Kirkwood’s pop-up carries women’s 2014 high summer and pre-fall collections. Another pop-up shop is planned to open in the Middle East this year. The designer also recently announced he will be showing his men’s spring/summer 2015 collection for the second time at London Collections on June 15th.
Whistles Planning Global Expansion
British brand Whistles is now available in the US through a partnership with Bloomingdale’s. Not surprisingly, their international expansion strategy involves mostly department store shop-in-shops. The US shop-in-shop is located in New York, on the second floor of the Bloomingdale’s flagship on 59th Street. Whistles’ broader expansion strategy started two and half years ago and has taken the brand many places, including France, Germany, Russia and China.
Alex Gonzalez is Elle’s New Creative Director
Elle has found a new creative director! The fashion magazine has hired Alex Gonzalez, who is the artistic director at both Town & Country and Marie Claire. He is giving up Marie Claire but will remain at Town & Country. Gonzalez is set to start next week, and his first work for Elle will be apparent in its October issue. In addition to his multiple jobs with Hearst magazines, busy Gonzalez is a cofounder of creative agency AR New York. His clients there include Vogue, Jimmy Choo, Revlon and Banana Republic. He succeeds Joe Zee at Elle, who left last month to head Yahoo’s digital fashion magazine.
