Giambattista Valli Announces New Line

It’s been nearly a decade since the launch of Giambattista Valli’s signature brand, and the designer has announced plans for a new ready-to-wear line called Giamba. The collection is set to debut on the runway during New York Fashion Week in September. “I feel the need to dress women in general, and Giamba is a little more intimate,” Valli said. The designer described the new line as “powerful, active, fearless, effortless and unique.”

“All my friends call me Giamba, and the moniker reflects the spirit of this new project. It’s another side of the same coin, another collection that runs in parallel with the designer brand, one completing the other. There is also a playful, underground and sexy side in me and in my designs that you will see in the Giamba line. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and waited for the right time, and now it’s matured. I am really very happy,” Valli noted.

Former Macy’s CEO Ed Finkelstein Dies at 89

Edward S. Finkelstein, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of R.H. Macy & Co., who orchestrated the rise of the retailer in the Seventies and Eighties, died Saturday at the age of 89 of natural causes at his home in Thousand Oaks, California. A private family service will be held at a later date, according to his son, who said his father had been in ailing health in recent months. “Ed Finkelstein was an innovator who shall be remembered for his many important contributions in building the Macy’s brand over the decades. His career was remarkable. The Macy’s, Inc. team extends our heartfelt sympathies to the Finkelstein family,” said Terry Lundgren, chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc.

AG Partners with Daria Werbowy

Supermodel Daria Werbowy has signed on with AG for four of the denim brand’s upcoming ad campaigns. The first images will debut in the August issues of fashion glossies and outdoor ads will go up in New York and Los Angeles. Josh Olins shot the fall campaign in a beachfront home in Montauk, NY during a storm. “Four of us flew to New York for the shoot. We left behind the 85-degree, sunny weather, and it was 44 degrees and rainy in Montauk. Everyone was wearing these enormous ponchos,” noted Sam Ku, creative director of the brand. Los Angeles-based AG is best known for their variety of denim washes and styles, but also carries apparel like silk tops and jackets. The company is considering opening a store in Las Vegas by the end of the year.
