J. Crew Opening CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Pop-Up Shop
For the past three years, J. Crew has worked with the winners of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award to create capsule collections sold online. For one day starting tomorrow night, the retailer is opening a CFDA pop-up shop at its store on Prince Street in Manhattan. Clothes and jewelry designed by winners Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School and finalists Marc Alary and Juan Carlos Obando will be available for purchase. The looks will also be available at nine stores around the world.
Zara and H&M Continue to Expand
Europe’s fast fashion companies Inditex and Hennes & Mauritz continue to show major growth as they opened new stores and expand e-commerce. Inditex, Zara’s parent company, had an 11 percent improvement, while H&M showed 19 percent growth in May. Store expansion is giving the numbers a huge boost. Inditex recently opened online stockrooms in Los Angeles for Zara’s successful e-commerce business here in the US, and online shopping for the brand will debut in Mexico and South Korea in September.
Maria Sharapova’s New Gig for Avon
Maria Sharapova, who won her second French Open title on Saturday, is now the face of Avon Luck. The fragrances have different versions for both women and men and feature the tag line “Celebrate Life’s Good Fortunes.” Sharapova is also featured in the TV advertising campaign and collaborated on both the story and concept for Luck. “Maria is an amazing athlete and business woman who has had lots of success in life. She has this sophisticated natural beauty. She’s someone who really exudes happiness,” said Danielle Bibas, vice president of global fine fragrances at Avon. Avon Luck for Her is described as oriental floral, featuring notes of sparkling bergamot, Italia orpur and velvet sandalwood. The men’s version is a woody, amber scent. The fragrances are set to launch in October.
