I thought it was such a brilliant idea for Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli to use the incredible and impeccable Frida Kahlo as an inspiration for Valentino resort.
This collection really captured the spirit of Kahlo. They referenced parrots and monkeys, both of which appeared in some of her famous self-portraits. Pieces ranged from delicate frocks with colorful embroidered flowers, trees and insects to practical outerwear such as the olive parka with painted and embroidered butterflies.
Towards the end of this eight-three-outfit lineup, a psychedelic print from a 1973 Valentino show was shown in some of the pieces such as the cashmere double breasted coat, silk shorts, and a chevron mink over a contrasting-stripe frock. The collection took another turn back with Sixties inspired pieces such as the shift dresses in color combinations such as yellow, pink, green turquoise and coral. The overall collection was interesting and I’m sure Frida would be proud.
