However, at Chanel’s Versailles-meets-Le-Corbusier-themed fall 2014 show Karl Lagerfeld sent his models in a dressed up take on the thong sandal. The shoe was designed by the house’s footwear director Laurence Dacade and features signature chain straps and ribbon ankle wraps to minimize the inelegant slapping sound. Many wonder since the World Cup in Rio is in play, was this a hat tip to Havaianas, Brazil’s most famous footwear export?
