While the athletic esthetic was a prominent trend on the runways for Fall ’14, “athleisure” is clearly taking over in every facet. Who hasn’t noticed workout leggings on the street as much as denim these days? Well now many traditional designers want a piece of the action and it comes as no surprise. Women are clearly not only becoming more active, we are wearing our activewear everywhere!
It appears activewear is becoming a fashion category unto itself. Net-A-Porter recently launched sister site, Net-A-Sporter, that focuses exclusively on activewear and you might notice some of your favorite sites like Shopbop and Nordstrom have increased their inventory dramatically. For almost a decade Stella McCartney was the only well-known designer to produce fashionable activewear. No longer.
Designers and lines such as Norma Kamali, Trina Turk, Betsey Johnson, Zimmermann, Splendid, Current/Elliott and Tory Burch have already begun producing and selling activewear and it is rumored Alice + Olivia will soon launch some as well. I predict we will see many more designers getting in on the fitness craze in the very near future too. Stay tuned.

3. Zimmermann Sloppy Joe Printed Crepe Top, $290 and shorts $220
