Frank Gehry Tapped for Vuitton Windows
Louis Vuitton has partnered with renowned architect Frank Gehry to design store windows for fall, coinciding with the arrival of the new collections. Making their debut next month, the windows will echo Gehry’s building designs. The architect also designed a handbag for the French fashion house, which will be available mid-October. Gehry’s bag is part of Vuitton’s “Icon and the Iconoclasts” project, which also involves designs by Cindy Sherman, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and Marc Newson. Nicolas Ghesquière’s first collection for Louis Vuitton will be available next month as well.
MCM Opening Manhattan Flagship
This fall, German accessories brand MCM is set to open a 4,000-square-foot flagship at 100 Greene Street in SoHo. MCM had revenue of $600 million last year and is ready for growth in the US. The brand is also planning upcoming store openings in international cities. The new stores will feature simplicity, clean lines and open space. “This freestanding location will serve as a model for future store openings. We plan to have at least 10 stores in the U.S. in cities such as Miami, Texas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago,” said Paolo Fontanelli, international CEO.
Instagram Introduces Video App
Instagram has released Hyperlapse, a new app to enhance videos. Users film a video at a lower frame rate than normal Instagram videos but have the playback occur at a standard frame speed. Instagram videos were limited to one speed, but now the new app allows users to select normal speed (1x) to 12x, with a default mode of 6x. A Hyperlapse video can be shared on Instagram and Facebook accounts and the app is currently exclusively available at Apple’s App Store.
