Add this boutique to your list of shopping and site seeing pleasures in Chicago! adidas has built upon the influential fashion-meets-sport aesthetic with the collaborations of Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, Rick Owens and Opening Ceremony. To expand even further, adidas decided to take its Y-3 boutique on E. Oak Street and transform it into a multi-brand and multi-collaboration store. Titled adidas Style, the store is a one-stop-shop to the best of adidas’ men’s and women’s fashion and design innovations with all collections now available!
The Y-3 collection, now in it’s 11th year, will continue to be well represented with its fashion-forward footwear and a playful assortment of clothing with Yohji Yamamoto drawing inspiration from superhero uniforms and the art of Japanese comic books and animation, known as manga. Find fitted, stretch-leather motocross jackets that feature padded, “protective” details, hooded windbreaker jackets with comic-strip and t-shirts that feature expressions taken from vintage comic books from the 50s and 60s such as “To Be Continued . . .”; “So We Meet Again . . .”; and “The End.” The inks feature a special technology that reacts to changes in body temperature, allowing the statements on the t-shirts to change color during wear!
The minimalist space is a gallery-like backdrop for the most innovative A/W unisex footwear collections including Y-3, adidas x Raf Simons, adidas x Rick Owens, and adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony.
In his 2nd season with adidas, avant garde designer Rick Owens drew inspiration from the aerodynamic, streamlined aesthetic of stealth aircraft for the elongated, modernist shaping of his Tech Runners, that utilize mixed media, leathers and suedes and feature “sawtooth” detailed soles. The adidas x Raf Simons A/W 2014 collection, now in its 3rd season, includes the introduction of 3 Stan Smith models, which feature a playful nod to the iconic shoe’s 3 stripes of perforation, only re-configured in the shape of the letter “R” for Raf.
The adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony collaboration plays with everyday motifs and makes them unusual and abstract. For example, artwork derived from fingerprints is applied to Stan Smiths, woven into the faux pony-skin the shoes and are crafted so the pattern almost resembles a close up view of an animal print. This same concept is also realized in 2 color-ways on an ankle boot style, featuring the use of leathers, neoprene and a hidden zipper for closure. These styles will be in store and available for purchase in September.
