New York Fashion Week Spring ’15: Kate Spade’s Take On Femininity And Fresh Starts

Fresh starts, taking chances and a feeling that anything is possible was Chief Creative Director Deborah Lloyd’s inspiration for the Spring/Summer 2015 Kate Spade collection. Straying from the standard runway show, the collection was showcased in a bustling and bright showroom near Chelsea, where the space was enhanced with a real grass floor and white flowers along the walls.  The collection itself had the room of fashion purveyors abuzz with the fresh and feminine styles that not only reflected structure but also comfort. Each piece was incredibly wearable with all of the silhouettes being shown giving off a relaxed vibe that didn’t at all stray from the elegance that is synonymous with Kate Spade.

It’s clear that Ms. Lloyd wanted to create timeless classics with fits and styling that appeal to all body types and women from all walks of life. However, the plays on proportion echoed the silhouette trends that are currently hitting hard and have proven to be home runs in both the high fashion and ready-to-wear worlds.

The color story stayed true to Kate Spade form and featured highly saturated tones like grass green, hyacinth and geranium, as well as crisp whites and true blacks. Large floral prints and bold stripes also graced the collection. Poppy, feminine and quirky accessories sprinkled the collection and featured beaded straw hats and sandals, fun clutches and my absolute favorite: creature-shaped straw handbags.

Kate Spade’s Spring/Summer ’15 showcase was thoughtful and impeccably styled (by celebrity stylist Brad Goreski) and as stated by the CCO Ms. Lloyd, “Pieces that can take you anywhere, on any adventure.” I most wholeheartedly agree.
