American Music Awards 2014 Fashion, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj

Whenever a music awards show comes to town, we’re pretty certain we’re going to see some rough style statements. And by rough, I mean out-of-the-box, out of the ordinary, and the kind only a rock star can wear.  We weren’t wrong this time around at the 2014 American Music Awards — though many of the style statements also came from models, actresses, and reality stars.  Just check out the ribbons of fabric on Jennifer Lopez and Heidi Klum! There was also a lot of black and white and a lot of pleating and piecing that were trending at the show, and of course, some plunging backs and necklines to throw into the mix. Here are the biggest fashion looks of the AMAs.

Cut-Outs

While the crop tops and plunging backs made a statement, this was by far the most interesting trend of the night. After three of the biggest stars, JLo, Taylor Swift and Heidi Klum, wore cut outs, I was expecting to see the piecing on more celebs. But alas, only Nicki Minaj did anything close to the ribbons of fabric concept and that was with an Alexander Wang dress with cut outs.  Still, I would be interested to see more of the piecing trend — on celebs that can pull it off, of course!

I love when Nicki Minaj gets cartoonish with her style statements but I also love when she plays it sleek! This look really works for her!

Plunging Backs and Necklines

Plunging backs and sexy necklines have always been a hit among the music set and this year was no exception.

Statement Outfits

I’m not really advocating these looks — in fact, Rita Ora was trying too hard and Zendaya is too young to even remember the 70s, but these girls did stand out where others were lacking.

And of course, what awards show would be complete without an appearance from one of the Kardashian-Jenners? Kim wasn’t there but Khloe, Kylie, and Kendall were!
