I know Valentine’s Day is over, but I love and wear rose scents pretty much all year long. In fact, roses are not my favorite flower – not even close (lily’s are), but for reasons I can’t explain nor understand, I have always gone wild for the smell of rose perfume. I’m always trying out new ones, so in the name of research…here are my top 5 rose fragrances (for now):
I have been reaching for this fragrance all winter. The base notes are white musk and amber so it’s a little headier than a straight-up rose fragrance. It’s ultra feminine, but not clawingly so.
Created by Cartier’s in-house perfumer Mathilde Laurent in 2013, Goutte de Rose is a bright and joyful “eau” infused with the delicate essence of freshly picked roses with notes of vanilla and amber.
This brand new fragrance for Aerin Lauder is the first parfum of the Premier Collection. This eau de parfum has a “Rose Fusion” heart with three layers of roses including a Rose Centifolia, a Rose Otto Bulgarian and Turkish Rose Absolute. The base notes are violet wood, Ambrox and soft musk. As much as I adore her original Evening Rose fragrance, I love this one even more!
This is one of the more light and fresh rose scents of the bunch and comes with the best price tag too. It’s a combination of 5 types of roses (Grasse, Bulgarian, Moroccan, Turkish and Haute-Provence) mixed with a little fruit like blackcurrants and raspberries.
If you are seeking a true rose fragrance you must try Rose Absolue…an ode to the rose which first came out in 1984. It’s widely known Annick Goutal was obsessed with roses which to her was symbolized femininity. This ‘all rose’ parfum is comprised of essences of the six finest roses of the East and the West (May rose, Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, Damascus rose, Egyptian rose, and Moroccan rose).
