Angel Sanchez presented his Fall 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week under the headline “For a free spirited and sophisticated woman.” This mantra, while seemingly oxymoronic, aptly describes the designer’s bright but elegant collection.
While known largely for its monochromatic evening and bridal wear, the label revealed an adventurous side with this collection, which featured a healthy mix of colors, fabrics, metals and cutouts. Looks included gold metallic neoprene inspired by the 70’s disco era, large brass fastenings and jewelry accompaniments, and dark tweed patterns. Chocolate-colored perforated leather played a large role, and was mixed with a merlot tone in several looks—a perfect example of the collection’s free-spirited-yet-classic theme (not surprising that his gowns have been worn by a multitude of personalities, from Taylor Swift to Katie Couric). Though these more risky fabric combinations appeared in several looks throughout the show, the designer did not abandon his bread and butter materials entirely — stunning chiffon gowns also had their time in the spotlight.
