Gaultier Retrospective Debuts

Jean Paul Gaultier’s retrospective will be unveiled at the Grand Palais in Paris tomorrow. The designer is currently embarking on a new career path, having stopped designing ready-to-wear and focusing on couture, fragrances and special projects. The showcase features 175 outfits and many photographs, sketches and videos, all spanning several decades. The exhibition, which runs though August 3rd, was curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot and designed by Agence Projectiles. Its next stop is Munich.

Net-A-Porter & Yoox Partnering

Net-a-Porter and Yoox are partnering to form an online luxury powerhouse amid stiff competition. Net-a-Porter’s parent company Compagnie Financière Richemont SA has signed an agreement to merge it with Italian online fashion retailer Yoox. The deal will result in Richemont and Yoox’s own technological fashion firm, called Yoox Net-A-Porter Group. Industry insiders estimate the group’s yearly revenue will top $1.4 billion. The firm will compete with other tech giants, including Amazon.com Inc., which was previously rumored to have been interested in acquiring Net-A-Porter for $2 billion. Yoox is an international online retailing partner of leading fashion houses including Balmain and Gucci.

Katie Hillier & Luella Bartley Launching Brand

Designers Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley are launching a women’s ready-to-wear and accessories brand for fall. The brand, called Hillier Bartley, is described as having “a masculine elegance” and will be available internationally in select retailers in August. “We are finally putting all our experience into making something that’s a reflection of us, of what we want to wear. I’m really proud of what we’ve made- the craftsmanship, attention to detail and design. It’s been a real labor of love, and I am looking forward to seeing women we admire carrying our bags and wearing our clothes,” said Hillier in a statement. Bartley used to have her own namesake company and Hillier is a veteran of Marc Jacobs. The duo could be involved with Marc Jacobs in the future.
