Bettencourt Affair Verdicts

Several key verdicts were handed down in the Bettencourt case Thursday by judges in the criminal court of Bordeaux, France. This trial started in late January 10 people charged with having abused the weakness of Liliane Bettencourt, the 92-year-old L’Oréal heiress who is also the wealthiest woman in France. The case lasted 5 weeks with closing arguments heard in late February. Found guilty of having abused the weakness of Bettencourt were photographer François-Marie Banier and Patrice de Maistre, a past financial adviser to the L’Oréal heiress. Banier was given a three-year jail sentence of which six months will be suspended. He was also fined 350,000 euros ($381,900). De Maistre was sentenced to 30 months in prison of which one year is to be suspended. Éric Woerth France’s former budget minister was acquitted. Back in December 2007 Bettencourt’s daughter Françoise Bettencourt Meyers brought a lawsuit against Banier, alleging he exploited the weakness of her mother, who gave him assets valued at around 1 billion euros ($1.09 billion).

Chanel Spa To Open At The Ritz

Chanel has confirmed it will open it first spa at the Ritz Paris at the end of the year. Titled Chanel au Ritz Paris, the spa will be dedicated to the brand’s skin care. With the news of the new spa this is only making the reopening of the hotel one more thing to be excited about. Chanel has said, “The story linking Chanel and the Ritz Paris would not be complete without the opening of a new Coco Chanel suite inspired by the one she originally occupied and by the decor she loved so much.”

Kris Van Assche Dior Homme

Kris Van Assche made the decision that after 10 years he will put his signature label on the shelf and focus his attention on his role as creative head of Dior Homme. Van Assche said, “this wonderful adventure has reached a point where I feel the need to take a break and some distance to better think about how to develop my brand in the future.” Along with this decision Van Assche will not be producing or distributing a fall collection.

Saks Teams Up with Pitti Uomo

Saks teamed up with Pitti Uomo trade show and titled their collaboration Italian Sartorial Style. The initiative will include a 22 page feature shot in Florence for its Father’s Day catalogue as well as a special gift guide, in-store visuals and windows. Six windows will feature sketches by Yooco Tanimoto and Saks will also co-host an event on June 18 during Pitti in Florence.
