Any fashionista knows that style trends get used and reused again and again. They go away and come back and sometimes the trend dies and sometimes it returns better than ever. In the trends shown above the celebrities have brought them back in unique and exciting new ways. Yes, they’ve all been worn before. Yes, some of them over and over. However, we can certainly learn a valuable lesson from these celebs who find new ways to wear old favorites. And yes, you can try these at home. Let’s see what these style gurus are wearing:
Emmy Rossum: Chambray
Denim on denim is so last year. Chambray, on the other hand, is the casual woman’s go-to style. Yes, like denim on denim, it too can be matchy-matchy. But tuck it into bottoms from the same color family and you’ve got a monochromatic look that’s still as sophisticated as ever. That’s why Emmy Rossum’s Lacoste chambray double pocket shirt tucked into the indigo blue skirt works so perfectly. It’s an updated way to dress up a work shirt and keep it streamlined, too.
Bella Thorne: Crop Top and Skirt
I have shown Bella Thorne as my example, but crop tops aren’t only for teenagers or Disney stars. Wearing a crop top and skirt in a mature and beautiful way can be extremely sexy without being over the top. Vanessa Hudgens has done it with long sleeves and lace, and Kim Kardashian, of course, is the epitome of crops tops on a curvier woman. But there’s also Diane Kruger who wears short sleeve crop tops with just the slightest hint of skin and Rihanna who sticks to a neutral color palette and makes it look utterly hip.
The key here is to wear elements that match or play against each other in solid color motifs. Also keep in mind that you don’t want to show too much – only a sliver of skin is appropriate. For the ultimate classy not trashy look, pair your crop top with a high waisted midi or A-line skirt that hits at the knee.
Miranda Kerr: Print Jumpsuit
Wearing a streamlined one color jumpsuit is one thing but wearing one with prints is another. Celebrities are all about the print jumpsuit these days and fashionistas from Rihanna to Kendall Jenner to Miranda Kerr have worn one. Depending on your fashion personality, you can make yours totally out there like the busy jumpsuits worn by Chrissy Teigen and Rita Ora or the textured and streamlined print ones worn by Emma Stone and Jada Pinkett Smith.
To keep your jumpsuit from getting too busy, add a solid jacket over the print to even out the effect.
Kristen Bell: Print Top Tucked Into Pleat Trousers
This is my favorite celeb trend happening right now and perhaps the easiest one to make your own, too. All you need is a pair of pleated high waist trousers and your favorite print shirt. Celebs like Kristen Bell and Rose Byrne have made this look their own. For best results, make sure the top is slightly billowy so that it can easily be tucked into the pants but still maintains the slightly oversize effect.
