Band-Of-Outsiders, Scott Sternberg

Band of Outsiders calls it quits

With their trademark “fin” shirt now reflecting their reality, Scott Sternberg’s Band of Outsiders is the latest independent label to call it quits in today’s retail environment. Last week, the company laid-off most of its staff and said they will not be completing orders for its fall season. Former senior vice president and fashion director at Barneys’ Julie Gilhart, who was also one of the first to buy the brand, stated, “It’s a question for midsize businesses: after they grow to a certain point and start needing stores, then what? It’s a really big issue for our industry. We spend a lot of time supporting young designers but where is support for the midsize people at a time when they critically need it?” Although Sternberg had no comment concerning the matter yet, numerous sources expressed surprise at this turn of events for the brand.

Caitlyn Jenner for MAC Cosmetics

MAC Cosmetics, owned by Estée Lauder, has already had meetings over the past few months with Caitlyn Jenner to discuss becoming a face of the cosmetics line, according to Page Six. Formerly known as Olympics champ Bruce Jenner, she re-emerged on Monday as Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair. Months before the cover was unveiled, execs at MAC were already discussing the possibility of having Caitlyn as a spokeswoman.

Chanel’s “Boy.Friend” Watch Debut

Like Chanel’s Boy Handbag, evoking the name of one of Coco Chanel’s ex-lovers Arthur “Boy” Capel, Chanel has revealed their new chunky, rectangular Boy.Friend watch. It is available in two sizes, Large, or 34.6 mm by 26.7 mm, and extra-large, or 37 mm by 28.6 mm. There are six versions of the timepiece in total, either in 18-carat beige gold, with or without diamonds, or in 18-carat white gold set with diamonds. The watches will go on sale in early September 11,400 euros, or $12,500 at the current exchange, to 25,200 euros, or $27,800.

Johnny Depp for Dior Parfums

For this actor’s first time fronting a fragrance, Johnny Depp is the new face for Dior Parfums. Following in the footsteps of other celebrity ambassadors, such as Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, he will be appearing in the campaign for the newest men’s scent. It was created by François Demachy, the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned house’s perfume-creator.
