Martone Cycling Co. Celebrates Second Birthday

To celebrate their second anniversary, Martone Cycling Co. founders Lorenzo Martone and David Thomas held a cocktail party on Thursday in their new Paris showroom. Hanging on a wall were two brightly hued bicycles – launched during resort season – in aqua and purple. On display, too, was the recently introduced Mia, a mini-model whose color accents are customizable.

Martone Cycling is in high gear, with lots of projects on. It also recently collaborated with Danward, a resort-wear label that created sandals in the bicycles’ colors. The bicycle brand launched an art platform, called M-ART-ONE, in Santa Monica with Ron Robinson and four Los Angeles-based artists.

Private Label Lines Taking Over Beauty

Private-label lines are taking on a more prominent role at beauty retailers. They are no longer simply imitations of well-known brands, and they are increasingly populating the assortment at prestige retailers as well. It isn’t just traditional beauty sellers looking to boost sales with their own collections. H&M is stirring up the market with its first full-range beauty collection. The assortment, which includes hair care, body care and beauty tools, is slated for more than 900 H&M stores this fall. In a twist, some of these brands are attempting to build their businesses beyond one retailer, following a model created by Boots No7, which is now sold in Walgreens and Target stores.

Ana Ivanovic Tapped as Face of Shiseido’s WetForce Sun Line

As a prelude to the opening of Wimbledon Monday, Shiseido has named the Serbia-born tennis player Ana Ivanovic as the ambassador for its WetForce sun protection line, which is formulated to maintain its performance when exposed to water or perspiration. According to the firm, the sunscreen, which was launched in May, is designed to interact with the minerals in water and perspiration to create a more “uniform veil” of protection. Ivanovic will appear in a campaign for WetForce, set to be shot in London next month. But the athlete has already been putting the sun protection through its paces during the current tennis season.
