Olsen Twins Overwork Interns with No Pay
Both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are under a lot of speculation after they allegedly failed to pay 40 current and past employed interns after having them work 50 hour plus laborious weeks. The lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court Case, Shahista Lalani comments about how extensive her work load was with no compensation. The Parsons School of Design grad worked in Manhattan under the head technical designer for the The Row for five months. “She was very demanding,” Lalani recalled. “I was doing the work of three interns. I was talking to her all day, all night. E-mails at nighttime for the next day, like 10 p.m. at night.” Much of the interns work included inputting data into spreadsheets, making tech sheets, running personal errands for paid employees, organizing materials, photocopying, sewing, pattern cutting, among other related duties. Lalani never worked directly with the twins and the times she was around them, they were very kind. A spokeswoman for the Olsens’ company told The Post, “Dualstar is not aware of this,” but declined to comment on the firm’s intern policy.
Is Phoebe Philo Leaving Céline?
PageSix is perpetuating a rumor that Phoebe Philo, the creative director of Céline since 2008, is looking to leave the company. She rose to critical designing acclaim when she began her career under Stella McCartney at Chloé in 1997, and then became the creative director when McCartney left to launch her own line in 2001.
Rumor has it she is wants to leave Paris where Céline is located to be with her family in the UK. However she said this before when she left Chloé only to turn up at Céline a mere two years later. Insiders think she’s in discussions with luxury firm Richemont, (which owns Chloé, Azzedine Alaïa and Cartier), for a position at one of their brands.
Of course Céline says this is all untrue, but we have all learned, where there is smoke, there is usually fire.
