Chicago beauty lovers enjoyed an unbelievable natural beauty event at Venue One in Chicago’s West Loop earlier this month. A Night for Green Beauty (ANFGB) is an annual event that showcases innovative, ethical and luxurious clean beauty brands. It’s an evening of shopping, testing and socializing with brand founders and fellow beauty addicts. Each year ANFGB partners with a charity and this year’s was Learning AFAR and No Barriers Youth. The event has also become known for its lineup of breakthrough brands, some of which are now on the shelves of Target, Urban Outfitters and Sephora.
I was not familiar with many of the brands but learned about some products that truly work and now I know are also good for me, since they don’t contain any questionable ingredients. Many are shedding the crunchy image with gorgeous packaging and lower price points since there is a mainstream demand for natural beauty products, similar to way organic foods have become.
Here are a few of my favorite natural beauty discoveries!
Cocovít is a new line of coconut oil harvested from fresh, organic coconuts in South India that has multiple uses. As a body moisturizer, my dry skin was immediately reborn! This multi-use product can be used as a moisturizer, makeup remover, intensive hair mask, frizz fighter, cuticle cream, shaving cream, eye cream, sunburn relief and as a burn ointment. The lip balm is amazing too. Cocovít was founded here in Chicago, but it is sourced from a village in South India it’s USDA Organic and Fair Trade Certified. The company purchased part of a farm to provide jobs to 40 families (80 people) that were previously homeless and provides schooling for 65 kids.
When it comes to anti-aging, Laurel Whole Plant Organics is well worth our attention! My favorites include the Body Oil for Sun (it makes my skin look brighter and glowing before and after the sun) and the Eye Serum took away the puffiness and helped brighten my dark under eye circles.
One Love Organics is a natural, ethical and environmentally driven cosmetics company created by skilled cosmetic artisans on St. Simons Island, GA. Their products contain only the finest, most effective ingredients on the market and the brand is ECOCERT organic certified. You must try the new Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum.
Speaking of gardenia, I was drawn to the Strange Invisible Perfumes booth when someone sprayed their fresh gardenia scent. They also carry a fun collection of zodiac fragrances. My Leo fragrance actually was “me”!
W3LL PEOPLE is a natural makeup line founded by Makeup Guru Shirley Pinkson, Cosmetic Dermatologist Reneé Snyder M.D, and Treehugger James Walker. They just launched their new Bio Bronzer Stick (It’s gorgeous and creamy!). Try the Expressionist Mascara, Bio Brightener Stick, and Bio Brightener Invisible Powder. They are launching at Sephora and Target.com in September.
Adina Grigore created S.W. Basics to be “incidentally” all natural . They’re products that really work and they just happen to be completely natural with no more than five ingredients in each product. She also wrote a book called Skin Cleanse: The Simple, All-Natural Program for Clear, Calm, Happy Skin and with recipes for making your own natural products. She has nothing to lose by sharing because it is easier to buy her products (in cool retro packaging) available at Target and Urban Outfitters.
Meow Meow Tweet is a small-batch skin care company that creates vegan products with pure, all natural and organic ingredients. The line comes in gift-worthy packaging that you don’t even need to wrap! I adore these whimsical illustrations drawn by one of the brand’s co-founders, Jeff! These are organic bar soaps that come in fragrances incuding Lavender Lemon, Grapefruit Mint, Tangerine Basil, Rosemary Lime and many more!
MUN was created byi nternational makeup artist Munemi Imai. The No. 11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner is a hydration toner composed of new rose blossoms hand-harvested from Valley of the Roses in Bulgaria that provides radiant and hydrated skin, with a very light rose aromatherapy.
