Sotheby’s Auctioning Famous Pearl Necklace

Sotheby’s will facilitate the auction of one of the rarest pearl necklaces in the world this fall. Called “The Cowdray Pearls,” the necklace will be for sale on October 7th at the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale. The historic Cartier-signed piece is expected to fetch somewhere between $4.5 million and $7 million. “The Cowdray Pearls” necklace is made of 42 extremely rare gray saltwater pearls; it’s a near-impossible occurrence to find that many gray pearls match so closely. The necklace will be auctioned with a pair of matching earrings, also by Cartier.“The Cowdray Pearls” originally belonged to the Viscountess Cowdray, Lady Pearson, who passed away in 1932.

Lela Rose Launching E-Commerce

Designer Lela Rose will debut a new website, which offers e-commerce for the first time. Launching tomorrow, lelarose.com will offer dresses, bags and shoes as well as exclusive pieces sold only on the site. Currently, the brand is available in 150 boutiques worldwide, and online at neimanmarcus.com, bergdorfgoodman.com and Net-a-porter.com.

The Outnet Adding Beauty for the Holidays

The Outnet will add beauty to its e-commerce site for the holiday season. Starting October 25thNet-a-porter’s sister site will sell products from 18 high-end beauty brands, including Lipstick Queen, Natura Bisse, By Terry, 111 Skin and Ren. “The challenge is that we’re an off-price retailer- and we didn’t want to offer off-price beauty. We wanted to see how can we be true to the DNA of everything we do and try and find something exclusive to us that no one else had,” said Andres Sosa, director of global sales and marketing. The offering will include beauty kits, which contain several new, full-size products that complement each other and range in price from $22 to $500. Beauty kits are 20-30 percent less expensive than if the shopper bought the products separately.
