CND®’s Fall 2015 Contradictions Collection is all about contrasts. Textures and tones collide for an unexpected elegance: leather and lace, street and chic, metal and pearl.
Second City Style recently sat down with CND® Co-founder and Style Director, Jan Arnold, to get the inside scoop on their latest collection.
SCS: What was the inspiration behind the new CND® Fall 2015 Contradictions Collection? Some shades look demure while others look dangerous.
JA: CND®’s Fall 2015 Contradictions collection is all about turning up the contrast! This season’s trends celebrate an unexpected clash between gritty street elements and elegant details for a dynamic combination of glamour and grunge. Nails evoke an edgy narrative with blackened pigments and heraldic ornaments. Enhanced almonds in purple and red are deepened and oxidized with smoked pearl and steel finishes.
CND®’s Fall 2015 Contradictions collection welcomes eight daring new shades in VINYLUX® Weekly Polish, with six of those colors launching in SHELLAC® brand 14+ day nail color as well!
- Rouge Rite – Opaque cool deep red
- Safety Pin – Opaque grey shimmer
- Peacock Plume – Opaque deep blue green shimmer
- Poison Plum – Opaque deep plum glitter
- Tartan Punk – Opaque traditional red shimmer
- Naked Naiveté – Opaque light pink
- Grommet – Opaque gunmetal grey shimmer (VINYLUX® only)
- Couture Covet – Opaque dark blue green (VINYLUX® only)
SCS: The different textures in the Contradictions Collection are so unique. What was the inspiration?
JA: The textures and tones are designed to collide for an unexpected elegance. Think: leather and lace, street and chic, metal and pearl.
SCS: How does CND® come up with names for their shade range?
JA: In developing CND®’s seasonal color collections and shade names, we pull inspiration from everywhere! Whether it be nature, art, street fashion or a simple household item, we look for beauty in the world around us and translate it into dynamic collections that set the trends for the season!
SCS: Did Fashion Week influence your collection?
JA: The collection was actually a driving source of inspiration for our F/W 2015 designs for Opening Ceremony, Libertine and The Blonds. For nearly two decades, CND® has set the industry standard in nail artistry on the runways and redefined nails as the ultimate fashion accessory. The masterpieces that our team designs for the runway are dramatic couture pieces, and our creative process gets even more exciting when we interpret the most extreme designer concepts into wearable, feminine styles that make sense for clients in the salon.
SCS: What nail art trends are you most excited about this fall?
JA: Fall 2015 is all about textures and tones that clash AND complement! We’ll see chains, studs, embellishments, and unexpected patterns on enhanced almond shapes.
