Even though the leaves are just starting to turn and the rest of the U.S. is gearing up for fall, the fashion world has jumped ahead a few seasons in anticipation for Spring/Summer. New York Fashion Week has begun and we are getting a peek of what’s to come for 2016.

Tadashi Shoji is a heavy hitter in the fashion industry, with his philosophy of creating beautiful fashion to flatter all figures. His masterfully crafted designs put his draping, pleating and tailoring techniques in the spotlight, leaving the women who sport his creations feeling radiant and comfortable in figure-flattering pieces regardless of their body type.

Shoji’s SS16 collection clearly reflected his signature aesthetic, featuring ethereal and classic pieces highlighting sheer tops, full length tulle skirts, red carpet column dresses and gowns and ready-to-wear cocktail dresses and separates in eyelet lace. Florals were definitely the central theme of the collection with floral overlays, embroidery, appliques and lace featured on almost every piece.

The color story was soft and delicate just like the garments with whites, purple and pink pastels reigning in the collection. Conversely, a small selection of pieces featured bold primary colors like green and blue that served as a stark contrast to the other garments, but appropriately highlighted the sportswear-like items serving as a stark contrast to the majority of the collection.

A few of my favorite pieces included the sheer purple “sweatshirt” with white floral applique and lattice underlay paired with the white and purple tulle midi length skirt, the white short-sleeved sheer tie coat with floral embroidery paired with crisp, cuffed white seersucker pants and the black and green color-blocked shift dress with black and white floral embroidery detail on the shoulders.
