Jason Wu‘s namesake collection set itself apart from some of the other collections for SS16. It featured a color palette reminiscent of nature, with rich earth tones and lots of texture. Not to take itself too seriously, the pieces were fashioned with ruffles, reflected feminine silhouettes and in contrast with the rich color palette, flashed some sexy (but not overtly) skin.

In addition to the highly saturated color story, black and white highly textured pieces also were on full display with several sweaters with updated details like sheer paneling and subtle fringe among some of the key looks. Casual shift dresses served as key components that proved that even a simple silhouette can be playful, as Wu used ruffles, peek-a-boo sheer and decadent trims to emphasize the designs.

The collection featured a handful of wildcard pieces that strayed away from the overall theme of the other garments but in an extremely befitting way. The wildcard pieces included the watercolor printed silk dresses that added a pleasing pop of color to the beginning of the show and the bright coral ruffled dresses that were a welcomed surprise towards the end. Also worth noting were the slinky, sheer spaghetti strap lingerie-like dresses sporting extremely on-trend ruffles and lace.

Overall Wu’s SS16 collection provided a little something that every woman can covet, from structured and sophisticated to slinky and sexy. Some of my favorite looks included the sienna sleeveless belted vest with black fringe shorts, the watercolor silk long-sleeved dress with a vertical ruffle detail skirt and the deep V-neck thin-strap floor length black dress with sheer panels.
