When it comes to finding the perfect transitional topper, nothing is better than the classic belted trench coat – and for Fall ’15 it is clearly a must-have. If there is one item you should invest money in, it’s a classic trench. They never go out of style and are the ideal choice for those hard to navigate seasons: Spring & Fall. So if you think a Burberry is too much, you will amortize it over the years you wear it. We call it cost per wear (fashion justification math). The more you wear something and the longer you wear it, it becomes a true value – unlike one-season only trendy items that you discard after a few wears. Those you should buy at H&M if at all. Suddenly you might find your Burberry trench over 10 years costs you only .75 cents every time you wear it. Carol once did a great post on the cost per wear theory.
Even if you can’t pull the trigger on a Burberry I have found some excellent trench coats for you to purchase right away! I love the belted look (tie around the waist even if it has a buckle – no fashionista worth her name would BUCKLE it) and wear it with everything from ripped jeans, a light cashmere sweater and booties to skinny cropped black pants, a loose silk shirt and your best heels to a pencil skirt, crisp button down, a patterned silk scarf tied around your neck and stilettos. Oh and be sure to push up those sleeves to show off your arm candy!
