When it comes to makeup trends straight from the runway, one can always expect some kookiness that’s not to be taken seriously (face doilies at Givenchy, dreadlocks at Nicole Miller, crazy 70’s blue liner at various designers shows) and then are are some that terrify me like zero makeup and nude lips, which begs the question…why hire a makeup company if the look is no makeup?

Anyway, here are some of the major makeup and hair trends that emerged from NYFW Spring ’16. Keep in mind, not many of these work if you are over 30. For instance, unless your last name is Kardashian, you might look dead with nude lips, and bed-head hair is not optimal if you have a real job in a real office. The no makeup makeup look is just deadly if you are over 30 and not one I recommend. Many of the makeup trends for 2016 we also saw last Spring like, full brows and dewy skin. That said, here we go. The good, the bad and the truly gawd awful.

HAIR

The major trend in hair that emerged is the center part. So get that comb out and get ready to go straight down the middle. The center part was everywhere! So was messy hair (down and in loose ponies and buns). Also surprising were the amount of shaggy bangs and some were shown by designers you would not expect, like Vera Wang. Trends that continue are braids and “my hair naturally looks this way” wash and wear hair, as well as loose waves and  just out of bed with some shine.

Low, loose pony: Oscar de la Renta, Altuzarra, Hugo Boss, Cynthia Rowley

Center part: Coach, Alice + Olivia, Narciso Rodriguez, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rodarte, Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano, Derek Lam, Mansur Gavriel, Victoria Beckham, Givenchy, Jill Stuart, Marchesa, Oscar de la Renta, Prabal Gurung, Rachel Zoe, Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Cynthia Rowley, Proenza Schouler, Calvin Klein

Braids (obviously never going away): Herve Leger, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, J. Mendel, Alice + Olivia

Messy low chignon: Tory Burch, Lela Rose, Marissa Webb. Marc Jacobs

Deep side part: Michael Costello, Libertine, DVF, DKNY, Nicole Miller, Thakoon

Choppy bangs: Alexander Wang, Carolina Herrera, Badgley Mischka, Christian Siriano, Derek Lam, Opening Ceremony, Nicole Miller, Vera Wang

Slicked back and then loose: Narciso Rodriguez, Cushnie et Ochs, Mansur Gavriel, Victoria Beckham, Prabal Gurung, Theory

Messy Effortless Natural Hair:  3.1 Phillip Lim, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano, Derke Lam, Libertine, Nicole Miller, Rachel Zoe, Thakoon, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren

Clean knotted bun: Monique Lhuillier, Jason Wu, Marchesa, Reem Acra, Zac Posen

Wide Hair Bands: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Suno, Erin Fetherston, Naeem Khan
