Give some love to your body’s largest organ, your skin! With Chicago’s ever-changing winter weather, your skin may be going haywire. Are you seeing dry spots, flakes, blotchiness and dullness thanks to cool and unpredictable temps? It’s freezing outside then the heat is blasting indoors which just adds to drying out your skin. Keep skin radiant and youthful with these smart skin tips from Board-certified Dermatologist Jessie Cheung, MD, Director of the Jessie Cheung MD Dermatology & Laser Center in Willowbrook. I recently met Dr. Cheung and quickly learned she is is extremely knowledgeable, explains every procedure and her staff is super friendly too. She keeps on top of all the cutting edge trends and techniques. Her clinic is a gorgeous retreat to help you meet your wellness and beauty goals from professional dermatological services to anti-aging treatments.
Here are few tips from Dr. Cheung for healthy skin in winter and beyond!
• Limit how long and hot your showers are. They feel great this time of the year, but will irritate and dry out your skin if you spend too much time soaking. Apply your body moisturizer while skin is still slightly damp to lock in hydration.
• Hold the sugar. Try to steer clear of sugary treats, mixed cocktails and lattes. Sugar byproducts will degrade collagen and elastin, and contribute to break-outs. Stick to a healthy diet low in processed carbohydrates and sugars, with plenty of good fats, protein vegetables and fruits.
• Gentle exfoliation is the quickest way to get a glow. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) accelerate cell renewal to brighten skin tone, remove dead cells and smooth the skin’s surface. Apply an AHA mask for a few minutes, and rinse off to reveal a fresh, radiant complexion.
