While the usual print babydoll dresses there, the mood & palette
were toned down. Straw Napoleon’esque hats were paired with silvery

last season, footwear rocked – in particular, a tall buckled white boot
that will no doubt be on every editors’ hit list.

With only two days left of New York Fashion Week here are the emerging trends that you can expect to see for Spring 2007:
Dresses-this is once again the key ingredient for
spring. You will continue to see babydoll, shift, kimono, wraps, jersey
and sundresses, but adding to the mix are tent, sack, trapeze,
(inverted triangle) and bell shapes.
Skinny pants-pants for spring are super skinny
drainpipe and ankle length. Think Audrey Hepburn. Paired with a boxy
cropped jacket, the look is extraordinary.
Florals-large or small print, appliqués, rosettes…they were all represented.
Yellow-unfortunately, the color that few can wear well is back in tones like marigold and buttercream.
Gray-in lighter fabrics the hues range from charcoal to dove to slightly metallic.
Trenches-you will see balloon and trapeze shapes, with large buttons.
Eyelet-white or black was shown quite a bit.
Slouchy light gage cashmere sweaters and jackets
Shorts-Bermudas, walking and tap
Pleats-it looks like they are emerging again. They have been seen on skirts, dresses and yes, pants.

Summary: It just so happens I love sugar, so I adored the collection by husband and wife team, Hanii Yoon and Gene Kang. It has been said that Y & Kei fuse Asian philosophy with a European edge and sexiness and that could not have been truer of this spring collection. They featured many white-on-white dresses with bows, ruffles, embroidery and appliques. Full on assault glamor!
Color Palette: Pure white, ecru, taupe, shiny beige, black, dove grey, blue-grey and silver.
Silhouettes: Voluminous ruffled blouses and dresses flapper style tiered cocktail dresses, drain-pipe ankle length pants with boxy cropped jackets, silk faille belted coat dresses, trapeze dresses, high-waisted bubble skirts, drop waist ruffle dresses, sheer blouses.
Accessories:
A belt tied around the waist with the buckle hanging, platform peep and closed toe ankle wrap heels.
Not Wearable:
Boxy, frilly flapper jackets…too much volume to carry off. A trapeze jacket paired with a full pleated skirt is flattering on pretty much everybody.

Key Takeaways: Key trends from Fall
2006 continued to influence Ashleigh Verrier, a recent graduate of
Parsons and a former apprentice at Proenza Schouler. The idea of
controlled volume permeated her collection, which featured fabric
manipulations from ruffles to ruching. Verrier also continued to work
with higher waistlines and cropped jackets and capelets, all hallmarks
of the Fall 2006 season.
Color Palette: Neutrals (black and white) were joined by gorgeously wearable shades of mustard, orange, dusky rose, sky blue, and ocean blue.
Silhouettes: Form
fitting silhouettes characterized Verrier’s collection: bustiers,
pencil skirts, tailored tops, skinny shorts, and fitted dresses. A
sprinkle of A-line styles rounded out Verrier’s collection. Of note
are the sailor shorts (nautical’s still big), thick straps on tops and
dresses, the extra-long placket, wide lapels, capelets, bows, and tops
with peplums.
Accessories Report: Strappy
platform sandals and espadrilles adorned the models’ feet. Necklaces
were either shown thoughtfully layered or with large dangling gems.
What’s Wearable: We
loved a flapperesque navy and white beaded dress (pictured), a flutter
sleeve belted striped dress, and a half-sleeve cream coat with
oversized collar and pockets.
What’s Not Wearable: Steer
clear of the horizontal striped skirt with hidden pleats, which we
found unflattering even on the model. We’d also avoid the
fabric-blocked top with wide straps and a long peplum, which
accentuates thick arms and thick middles.
