Nothing is more flattering to me in-between seasons than nude nails. I can’t tell you know much I love the color, or lack thereof. Nude is the perfect accessory to any wardrobe, and never competes with the fall season’s palette. Here are some of my favorite finds for the perfect nude nail polish.
Nobody does polish better than Deborah Lippmann. Some may disagree, but her polishes are always ‘grown up’, have great coverage and lasting power. What better way to transition into fall than with her Naked nail polish, in a clean bare beige shade. Due to it’s sheerness, you can layer and layer until you find your desired intensity.
Another favorite brand teamed up with Sephora, to give us nail colors galore. Sephora by Opi has any shade you can think of, but neon will not do for fall. Going Nude, Eh? is where I am going. No, I’m not going nude, but it’s the color of the nail color, and you can go nude too . Yes, as they say, it is the perfect ‘naturally sexy in-the-buff’ shade!
Rescue Beauty Lounge with it’s cult following always brings us beautiful shades and they aren’t exempt from giving us the perfect nude shade for fall. Their ‘Sheer Nude’ shade is just what it says – sheer and nude and they go on to say it’s “like an ultra sheer stocking that makes your fingers look sleek, glossy and very very expensive. Just the color to wear when interviewing for your boss’s job.” Brilliant! How can you go wrong with that?
When it comes to ‘green beauty’ you won’t be disappointed with HIPPxRGB. Green celebrity nail stylist Jenna Hipp has teamed up with RGB founder Gina Carney to create HIPPxRGB. HIPPxRGB created the first skin tone specific, full coverage, all nude nail color collection. Similar to the concept of foundation for the face, Nail Foundation is the first nail color of its kind designed to match and compliment for a flawless even finish. And one of my favorites is the nail color in ‘F2‘. It’s a universal nude that can be worn by any skin tone.
I’m so happy to tell you about this nail line. I met the lovely founders a few years ago in New York at a Fashion Week mixer. They are the sweetest girls ever, and have a great product to back them up. Ginger + Liz have amazing nail polishes that are good for you (non-toxic) edgy, and modern all in one. Who else does nail polish well, even though they are known for their highly pigmented eye shadows? Yes,of course it’s MAC. They do many things well, and nail polish is one of them. Usually pairing them with coordinating eye shadow shades, these high-gloss formula’s are yummy. They have amazing pigment, gorgeous colors, and a no-streak/no chip finish. Even though it’s a limited-edition, MAC’s ‘MAC Me Over! Xee & Sharon‘ is a gorgeous nude, taupe nail lacquer that works well perfectly for fall!

Dior has temporarily forgotten all of the drama and has brought us back to the magic of the brand. Dior released its newest commercial for J’adore Dior with their beloved Charlize Theron and some old beloved girls as well. As you watch the video you will see Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, and Marilyn Monroe all prepping to walk the catwalk.
The commercial is Theron rushing in to walk the Dior runway in Versailles‘ stunning Hall of Mirrors. Upon her entrance backstage, Theron casually acknowledges and greets the late starlets right before throwing on a slinky gold dress and strutting her stuff.
The starlets were put into this commercial using CGI magic and once you watch it, you will feel the magic.
When it comes to eyeshadows, when are we ever really satisfied with just one color? I know I can never decide and want options, so that’s why I love eyeshadow palettes. There are many customized creations that can be made and your eye routine never gets boring using palettes. However, with so many options and so many brands, how do you decide on the perfect palette? With millions of cosmetics on the market, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the selections. Just go to the mall and you’ll find dozens of counters who all think their products are the best. In a sense, that’s what we love and are drawn to, but wouldn’t it be great to have a single product that works for any and everyone? Here are some of my favorite universal products that work for just about anyone and will be sure to take the guess-work out of finding the right products.
1. If you haven’t heard of NARS Orgasm you must live under a rock. This blush has been seen everywhere and on everyone and it’s for good reason. It is the perfect shade of pinky peach that looks good on the palest to darkest of skin. It compliments any other makeup you are wearing and gives a fresh, dewy and flushed look. You can’t go wrong with this blush, even if you hate blush.
2. Everyone who knows me knows I love a good gloss, and I’m up for trying any and everything new on the scene. So when Smashbox introduced O-Gloss, I just had to try it. One of the first of it’s kind, Smashbox’s O-Gloss was a sure-fire hit. The first gloss to react to your personal skin chemistry, it transforms to the perfect shade of pink tailored just for you. Infused with Goji Berry-C Complex, ginkgo biloba and pomegranate seed, this good for you gloss is a no fail!
3.Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Powder is one of the best selling powders on the market. It’s no wonder it’s always sold out when it’s time to repurchase it. Worth every penny, this super fine, translucent powder can be worn by anyone as it has little to no color, and never gives a powdery look. With a unique light- reflecting ingredients it creates a ‘soft-focus’ appearance to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and is the best at setting makeup. Used from everyday women, to brides, to actresses, it is one powder you never want to be without.
4. I can honestly say I can be a little skeptical with products that say they can be used by anyone, and IT Cosmetics Brow Power was no exception. Really, could blondes use the same brow pencil as someone with jet black hair? Well, according to IT Cosmetics, yes and I have to say I was proven wrong. This pencil looked just as good on my African American brows, as it did on my one of my Caucasian friends! The trick is in the stroke, lighter strokes for lighter hair and stronger strokes for darker hair. Everyone should own this pencil. Never worry about finding the perfect brow pencil again.
5. You always hear the question at the counter, “Can you recommend the perfect shadow?” or can “Can you recommend a shadow I can wear everyday?” Women are endlessly on the hunt for the perfect shadow. Well, I can honestly say, I have discovered one of the best all-around shadows that anyone can use. Stila Cosmetics, Kitten Eyeshadowis the perfect shimmery nude pink that compliments everyone’s skintone. With a little shimmer it brightens the eyes and can be used as a highlighter on other areas on the face. From brides to city workers it’s a gorgeous color.
6. I adore a good gloss and I absolutely fell head over heels over Clinique’s Black Honey Gloss. The name alone gives me goose bumps, but when I tried it, I thought it would be a dark, burgundy catastrophe, as it’s not one of the most flattering colors on me. But I was pleasantly surprised when it gave just the slightest hint of color that wasn’t too mauve or too burgundy. It looks slightly different on everyone, depending on lip tones and complexions, but it is perfect moisturizing gloss for day or night.
Even though we all know about the dangers of excessive sun exposure, nobody wants to be deathly pale all summer do they? A rich golden tan is still covetable even if it comes from a tube. A touch of a tan just makes you feel better from the inside out, doesn’t it? I don’t know about you, but I have tried spray tans (a la Jersey Shore) and while I love the long-lasting color, I can not tolerate that awful sticky feeling one has to endure for hours before being allowed to shower. No thank you! Luckily for us, there are a plethora of self-tanning products available today to address every tanning need and desirable shade without the harmful side effects. So what have I been doing the past month? I’ve been testing the best self-tanning and bronzing products on the market right now. From self-tanning creams to lotions to sprays…I tried them all, so you don’t have to. The following recommendations are sure to deliver the most skin-friendly summer glow.

This product is one of the best no-mess self-tanners I have ever tried. It isn’t new and has been available at your drugstore for a few years now, but remains a perennial favorite. The fine mist allows you to get a professional airbrush effect at home. I love the fact that you can reach those hard to get to places and you don’t have to rub it in and therefore run the risk of tan palms. Just spray all over and go. A natural-looking tan will develop within a few hours.
This is the best choice for those who want a natural product. Enjoy the look of beautifully bronzed skin from natural sugars from beets, sugar cane and other plants that react with the skin’s surface to safely give a natural-looking tan. Licorice and aloe are added to soothe, repair and hydrate for skin that stays youthfully glowing. The product smells almost as good as it works. You can also find MyChelle’s Del Sol Sunless Tanner at Whole Foods.
This citrus smelling streak-free formula is light and absorbent and creates a flawless natural looking tan. Made with wheat protien it doubles as a daily moisturizer for the face and body. Your “vacation in a bottle,” Tantasia, works instantly, but develops gradually over three days so you can control and customize your level of color.
This is the perfect solution for when you need tan legs STAT (like for that wedding you totally forgot about)! Spray the gel-like liquid onto your legs and blend away. The heavy pigment needs to be blended well, but it dries within 10 minutes and then doesn’t budge until you scrub away in the shower. So don’t fear, it won’t rub off onto your clothes. Skinsheen uses special polymers (with silicone) to adhere better to skin so don’t moisturize before using this product.
Not only do I love this product, I love the smell. It reminds me of Hawaii. Who can resist? It is also an instant bronzer as well as a gradual is a sunless tanner. So you can look sexy right away! Use daily to build your sun-less tan and keep your body in bikini shape all year long! Also available for face, the oil-free light-weight formula vanishes into the skin instantly while delivering silky hydration. This one is staying in the act permanently.

I have been using L’Oréal products for years now and their products are some of my favorites. This clear gel spray self-tanner that is free of parabens and provides a mess-proof application. It’s available at your drugstore in a medium-tone bronze finish to complement all skin tones.
I have to admit something. At first I didn’t think I was going to like this formula by Kiehl’s. It is very liquidy and somewhat runny, almost like a milk and I thought there is no way this is going to work. Well, I am glad to report I was wrong! Kiehl’s Sun-Free Self-Tanning Formula actually applies like a dream. Since it is so “runny” this lightweight, non-greasy lotion to glides on easily, absorbs instantly and doesn’t streak! I am able to cover my entire body in seconds flat. The color was also one of may favorites of all the ones I tried and I noticed a natural-looking tan within one hour of application. I was also able to dress immediately.
Yes it is no secret we are huge fans of Solerra products here at Second City Style. They are most known for their amazing Sunless Tanning Mitts, but it’s their lesser-known Silk Spray Tan I personally love the most. The easy to apply, non-streak spray delivers natural, dark tanning results while deeply moisturizing your skin. The tan takes affect within 1 hour, grows darker over 4-6 hours and will last 7-10 days! Brilliant!

Hugo Naturals Brown Sugar and Kumquat Body Polish
You must exfoliate! Personally my skin can pot tolerate salt scrubs so I look for sugar-based ones. This one by Hugo Naturals is my new favorite! This invigorating blend of sugar and powerful emollients gently exfoliates and moisturizes. Whole vitamin E and oat extract add suppleness and radiance. It leaves your skin soft and ready to be tanned!
It’s finally summer! I admit I love this time of year, heat and all, because it’s the time for some of my favorite activities and much needed vacations. Even though I have not stepped one foot in a pool or on the beach that doesn’t mean I’m not prepared. I put on my faux glow on every morning, because nothing makes me feel better than a good highlighter/bronzer. You too can get ready anytime with some of my new favorite bronzers.
With new seasons come new products. One of my favorites is MAC’s recently launched Skinsheen Leg Spray. The application of this bronzer is super easy. It’s a great smooth-on gel-based bronzer that’s soft and mousse-like. It provides the best immediate sheen and radiance that’s not too much, but just right. It comes in two shades of medium dark and dark, and looks great on anyone.
Who says we can’t glow and have a angelic youthful halo to go with it? Smashbox will make you a beliver. If you loved their Halo Foundation wait until you try their Halo Bronzer.One of the healthiest bronzers around, this revolutionary bronzer gives you a gorgeous sun kissed glow, while making you look young and gorgeous. See why I’m a fan? Infused with gold and 48 minerals, its a universal bronze that looks good on every skintone and lasts all day. Claims say after 10 minutes, there is a 33% decrease in the appearance of wrinkles.
If there is one thing Bobbi Brown Cosmetics does right, that is bronzers. Her brick compacts are genius in that they can be worn as eyeshadow, highlighter and bronzer. Paired with a great blush her Shimmer Brick Compact in Bronze makes for a winning combination. The bronze is not too deep, but gives just the right amount of rich bronze glow. It’s definitely one of the most universal bronzers you will ever find.
I know some of you may ask, whats the difference between expensive and inexpensive bronzers? Don’t they do the same thing? I can honestly say they do not all carry the same amount of pigment, however, I have found an inexpensive bronzer that is almost an exact duplicate of one of my favorite highlighter/bronzers from another well-known line. Milani’s TANtastic Face & Body Baked Bronzer is unbeatable for the price, and the color pay-off is phenomenal. it gives skin the slightest of sheen that is buildable, which I love. If you are looking for a great bronzer for a drugstore price, this is the bronzer for you.
A staple that should be in every woman’s purse is a Nars Multiple. Not only does this little charm bring life to your face, it gives the best glow ever. Nars Multiple Bronzers are fabulous from a day in the office when secretly wishing you were at the beach, to actually laying poolside getting a glow with your faux glow already applied. It works for anyone, the colors are beautiful, the tube is portable and the product can be used for any part of your face. It comes in 3 shades, so you will be sure to find the one that suits you.
Last but not least for those who want to spend as little as possible for bronzer is Wet & Wild’s Mega Glow. A line I once thought that only gum popping teeny boppers used, has become one of my favorite for inexpensive beauty finds and their bronzer is no exception. It does just what it needs to do: it highlights and bronzes the face with a subtle shimmer that’s not overbearing, and is not flaky like some bronzers. It’s a perfect combination of a blush, bronzer and brightener all in one.
In this economy we are now faced with making decisions such as whether to purchase our regular $30 mascara or try a $5 dollar version. Realizing you’ve spent your monthly allowance on a new pair of new Louboutins, the $5 dollar mascara may be the way to go. For some, the less expensive option is the only way to go, because who says beauty has to be expensive? Whatever your beauty rules may be, there are options for everyone at every price-point, whether it’s the expensive brand or the drugstore brand. Check out these beauty Splurge vs. Steal winners.
I have to say that Nars Orgasm Blush has to be one of my all time favorite blushes. It looks fantastic on just about anyone, and pics up the natural flush in cheeks with an added glow. You can’t go wrong with Orgasm Blush, but if you don’t want to spend the money, try NYX’s Blush in “Pinched”. It’s one of the best inexpensive steals you can find in such a popular color. This blush is highly pigmented and layers wonderfully.
We all know the phenomenal benefits of Vitamin E, from healing our skin, to giving us a glow. Vitamin E cremes can also be expensive, and Jo Malone’s version is no exception. She has Vitamin E covered with her wonderful Vitamin E Gel. It’s definitely one of your more luxurious vitamin E cremes and you can’t go wrong. However, don’t fret if you love a great vitamin E creme but don’t want to pay a ton for it. Genes Vitamin E Creme is one of the best for the value. For less than $15 you get a pound of vitamin E that has one of the highest I.U’s. It moisturizes the driest of skin, and smells heavenly.
If you haven’t heard of MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick you are missing out. This lipstick is worn by some of the most famous faces, including Gwen Stefani, Rhianna and Taylor Swift. It’s one of the best matte red lipsticks you will ever find and it lasts forever. However, upon stumbling across Wet & Wild lipsticks at the drugstore, I discovered one of their new lipsticks, Mega Last Lip Colour. Browsing through the colors, I found a color 611D that was a beautiful red and once I tried it on, it looked very much like Ruby Woo. Could I have found a replacement for my beloved Ruby Woo? Well, not totally, but this is definitely one for the collection.
When looking for the perfect eye shadows you can never go wrong with neutrals, and that’s one thing Bobbi Brown has mastered. But what if you want to add a punch to your color? Then try a neutral shadow with shimmer like Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eye Quad. This takes your look up a notch, but is still wearable day or night. For those who don’t wear shadow every day and may not want to splurge try E.L.F. Natural Shadow. You can’t beat it for less than $3.00. Talk about a steal!
There’s nothing that frames your face better than a nicely groomed brow. Which is why brow grooming products are essential. We are all not fortunate to have lush, thick brows and for those who do, you need the right grooming tool. Which is why I love Dior’s Easy Brow Automatic Pencil. Even though it’s more expensive than most brow pencils, I can say it is the best. It fills in sparse spaces and defines brows beautifully. However, I have found another eyebrow pencil that may make you think twice about buying another expensive brow pencil, and that’s Milani Easy Brow Automatic Pencil. Even though it only comes in two colors, Blonde and Dark Brown, that’s all you will ever need. They glide with great precision and fills in brows magically. Definitely one of my favorite brow products.
When it comes to lip color I am never one for fuss. The whole lip liner, lip stick and gloss combo is just way too much for my everyday liking. I have come to love anything that doesn’t require a mirror and steady balance. Which is why I really love matte lip color and lip stains. There was a point in time when I couldn’t imagine even buying a matte lipstick or lip stain, let alone wear it. I didn’t think they would do anything for me, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Since then I have tried many lip stains and have found they pack a punch of pigment (more than I ever thought) and they actually work! If you are one for a no fuss lip product that gives you a little color, and a polished finish, I have some of my favorite matte lipsticks, and lip stains that are must for anyone that wants something easy and light to toss in your purse.
1.Technically this is not a lip stain, but I was so impressed with this and for only a few bucks I couldn’t leave this one out. Wet N Wild’s Mega Last Lip Color is my new fave! If you have heard of Ruby Woo by MAC, Wet N Wild’s Red Velvet is almost an exact dupe. I couldn’t believe how pigmented the color was, and paired with a great lasting lip liner, the color really lasts forever on your lips. Okay maybe not forever, but long enough for a $3 dollar lip color.

2.There is one product that NARS always gets right, and that is their lip colors. They have a gorgeous selection of richly pigmented colors that will make any woman look like a million bucks.
