Making Beautiful Music with an Accordion (Pleat)

Lauren Dimet

When I saw the green DAY Birger et Mikkelsen dress on Net-a-Porter I knew instantly I had to have it. The shirt top, pintucked wide waist and pleated front and back panel had me at hello. It surpassed my expectations when it arrived. I am now obsessed with accordion-pleated... everything.

In a season of massive volume there is something delicate, if you will, about a touch of tight pleating. It is no secret that I am skeptical of the babydoll, trapeze and tent styles for spring/summer. However, if you are not ready to go full-on pleat (as in a dress) try an accordion mini or a top in a light fabric like silk chiffon or cotton. Pair either piece with a contrasting fitted article of clothing like a Lycra boat neck top with the mini or cigarette pants with the pleated top. Since your pleats will already make a statement, keep jewelry delicate and to a minimum.

Viola, you will look chic... and not fat.
