Your Destination Wardrobe

Gabbie Perez

Summer is just around the corner (yay!), which means not only do we get to plan our well-deserved vacations, but we also have to plan the proper apparel.

Essential Basics:
These are the items you should pack no matter where your vacation takes you this summer. With a few essential basics, you can look chic and location appropriate, without weighing down your suitcase and without stressing about what to wear.
Day-to-night Dress: Look for fabrics that won’t wrinkle easily (ie: not silk or linen!), so you won’t have to worry about ironing after you’ve unpacked. And we all know that a great LBD can take us anywhere…
Ballet flats: Comfortable and great for walking, ballet flats are a fab alternative to sandals and sneakers. Plus, they are a versatile option for day-to-night shoes.
Cardigan in a bold color: Because weather predictions aren’t always accurate, and a lightweight cardigan in a funky summer color is just plain fun.

Trekking to Europe?
Before embarking on a European vacation, my friends always ask me what to wear in order to not be instantly labeled as an American tourist. My advice is to keep it simple: don’t over accessorize and when in doubt wear black. Things to pack: Converse sneakers (seemingly every European owns a pair, and great for hitting the pavement), skinny black pants, layered tanks, scarves (a wardrobe staple in Europe). Things to avoid: Capri pants, sweats pants (even on the plane), backpacks.

Hitting the Beach?
My favorite summertime locale, there’s nothing quite like lazily spending an afternoon soaking up some sun. An oversize tote is great for all of your beach necessities (floppy hat, iPod, trashy magazines, and lots of SPF). I’m a fan of the one-piece bandeau swimsuit: it covers what needs to be hidden, but reveals what needs to be tanned!
