Seeing Fashion Through Fashionable Eyeglasses

I have worn contacts since I was in third grade. I wear my glasses only before bed and right after waking up. My glasses are heavy and uncomfortable, probably because they are from high school. I decided to step into the millennium – about a decade late, I admit, but better late than never!

Glasses have turned into a prominent fashion accessory, and I was shocked to discover that it’s taken me this long to follow suit in obtaining them. Plus, they’re also made to be much more comfortable than they were back in my high school days. Now there is the choice of having non-glare and transition lenses (no more switching from prescription glasses to prescription sunglasses!) and lenses that are thin and light, no matter what the prescription.

So now, what frames to pick?

First off, figure out what frames work best with your face shape. I have a round face shape, which means that I need to avoid round and large frames – instead I should look for angular and geometric frames in rectangular and horizontal styles.

If you have a heart-shaped face, try bottom-heavy frames that add width to the lower portion of your face or narrow and round frames that soften your forehead. For a square face, stick with oval and round frames or butterfly-shaped. If you have an oval face, you are in luck! Most frame shapes work with oval faces, however you may want to avoid frames that are too large for your features.

Once you find the frame shape that works best for you, then you can play with which colors and styles make the statement you want them to make. For me, I said goodbye to my “Coke bottles” and hello to some fabulously fashionable red plastic rectangle frames with state of the art lenses. Maybe tomorrow I may opt for glasses instead of contacts. We shall see!
