Dita von Teese at Zac Posen
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall ’12 in New York has come and gone, and this time the top celebs made their front row appearances towards the end of the week which is notoriously known for the best shows such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriguez. Second City Style highlights the A-listers who got us excited with their great and not-so-great looks while taking in the collections.
The gorgeous burlesque star Dita von Teese was at the tents throughout the week, but she made her most beautiful, most colorful, and most elegant appearance in Zac Posen‘s glamorous front row. Dita, who’s known for wearing form fitting dresses, pencil skirts, black, and lace, looked divine in this fuschia colored frock with embellished shoulders and a mermaid hem that hit at the knees.

Julianne Moore at Reed Krakoff
We were surprised to see mega-star Julianne Moore at the Reed Krakoff show, but not surprised by her chic appearance, which is both age appropriate and dominating. Check out that green blag as a pop to the overall black.

Blake Lively at Noon by Noor
We were also surprised to see Blake Lively at the Noon by Noor show, but not surprised but her stunning appearance (she always looks fabulous and with every fashion designer and a collection of Louboutins at her disposal, who wouldn’t.) This white tuxedo dress is not one of her best looks, but it is innovative, and we love that she will try anything once!

Ashley Greene at DKNY
Not surprised by Ashley Greene‘s appearance at DKNY and Donna Karan. She’s a Donna Karan fan for a long time, and now she’s a DK spokesperson, too!

Emmy Rossum at Donna Karan
This dress looks well fitted to Emmy Rossum‘s petite frame, but it’s nothing special. Black never hurt anyone, but in this case, it doesn’t help much either. It’s great that she showed up to Donna Karan, though as did Adriana Lima, who also wore black. Is black all the rage all of a sudden?

Uma Thurman at Tommy Hilfiger Women
Oh Uma, you can do no wrong! Here she is at Tommy Hilfiger‘s women’s show looking as gorgeous as ever in navy blue.

Whitney Port at Mara Hoffman
Whitney Port showcased her own line at New York Fashion Week, but she also made an appearance at Mara Hoffman. She says the designer has prints that are fun and a great outlook on color. Love that skirt, Whitney! Can I borrow it?
Whitney is always well versed in the style department. She’s a risk taker, too!

Courteney Cox at NewbarK
Courteney Cox isn’t much of a style star and she was way boring in this knit sweater and skirt combination at the NewbarK presentation. You almost can’t notice the navy blue color blocked stripe in the asymmetrical number. Glad she made an appearance, though, and with daughter, Coco, no less!

Camila Alves and Maria Menounos at QVC
Both of these ladies were at a few shows this season. The new fashion star title may have to go to Camila Alves, though. This lady is so stylish with leopard print pumps at QVC, a bright blue Yigal skirt with a slit at the Yigal Azrouel show and a canary yellow dress at Monique Lhuillier. Yet she’s never overdone and never over-the-top. There’s a quiet power that we just love.

Dakota Fanning and Natalie Portman at Rodarte
In what might be the oddest pairing at New York Fashion Week, Dakota Fanning sat next to Star Wars creator George Lucas at the Rodarte runway show. This picture, however, is not an odd pairing and we love that Natalie Portman left the baby at home to support one of her favorite brands. Since Rodarte’s presence in Black Swan and perhaps, even before, Portman has been a fan of their youthful fashion. We’re digging Dakota’s sharp shoulders and Natalie’s knit sweater and also her more rounded look. She did just have a baby after all.

Molly Sims and Zoe Saldana for Rock & Republic for Kohl's
Zoe Saldana made an appearance at Prabal Gurung and Molly Sims was a frontliner at Diane von Furstenberg. We loved that they teamed up for the Rock & Republic for Kohl’s collection and that Sims has a superb maternity style!

Ashanti and Michelle Williams at Falguni & Shane Peacock
Falguni & Shane Peacock are notoriously known for their out there looks and their graphic pieces that cater to music stars, who like to make a statement on the stage or red carpet. Ashanti certainly made quite a statement here in this sheer and graphic body suit, that covered up in all the right places, but still made you say WHOA when you saw it in person.

Gloria Estefan and Claire Danes at Narciso Rodriguez
If red and black weren’t on the runways, they were on the front row celebs. Gloria Estefan and Claire Danes (above) and Rooney Mara and Emma Stone (below) are all about minimalist looks that shout from the rooftops. We approve.

Rooney Mara and Emma Stone at Calvin Klein Collection
Below, more of the big names that were surprise appearances at the shows. The Olsen twins at J Mendel wore matching black sunglasses. Shenae Grimes was in spandex and brights at both Betsey Johnson and Emerson. Coco Rocha was at just about every collection, and she opened and closed Zac Posen too! Viola Davis may have been shopping for an Oscar dress at Vera Wang and tennis Maria Sharapova hit up Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang. We love that geometric print jacket. Badgley Mischka had a good turn out with dedicated fan Kelly Osbourne leading the pack and Marchesa brought out ladies like Stacey Keibler, Bar Refaeli, and Petra Nemcova. Nina Dobrev was at her first Fashion Week ever! And perhaps the best front row lineup–Angelica Huston, Debra Messing, Amber Heard, and Jessica Alba at Michael Kors!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at J Mendel

Shenae Grimes, Cory Kennedy, Coco Rocha at Betsey Johnson

Viola Davis, Anna Wintour, Maria Sharapova at Vera Wang

Coco Rocha, Nina Dobrev, Ashley Green at DKNY

Louise Roe, Selita Ebanks, Kate Mara, Nikki Reed at Tracey Reese

Erin Andrews, Angela Simmons, Kelly Osbourne, Joan Rivers, Kate Mara, Shay Mitchell at Badgley Mischka

Petra Nemcova, Bar Refaeli, Stacey Keibler, Adepero Oduye, Jenna Dewan, Taylor Momsen at Marchesa

Angelica Huston, Debra Messing, Paula Patton, Amber Heard, and Jessica Alba at Michael Kors

With all the fur I saw on the runways this Fall/Winter 2012-2013 season, I almost wondered if that’s ALL the celebs would be wearing in the front row. And while I did see a fur vest on one very stylish Olivia Palermo, it was other unexpected trends that did it for me among the celebrity-studded arrivals at shows like Michael Kors, Monique Lhuillier, and BCBG Max Azria. Many of them, for example, wore bright colors, something I thought was appropriate for Spring 2012 and not for Fall. But even with the weather being colder in February, celebs like Camila Alves and Debra Messing did not hesitate to throw on the bright colors.

Renee Zellweger at Carolina Herrera
While she has missed the show once or twice, actress Renee Zellweger is typically a front row fixture at Carolina Herrera’s runway presentation, and often uses the designer’s fine ladylike taste to dress her for major red carpet events. The pink and cranberry color combination of this top and pencil skirt is most likely Carolina Herrera and it fits Zellweger to a T.

Diane von Furstenberg and Barbara Walters
I can say without a doubt that Diane von Furstenberg was probably the best dressed designer on the runway this season in her yellow top, fuchsia belt, and black skirt. Even more stunning is Barbara Walters’ vibrant orange coat, green top and blue pants (a big change from her typical conservative skirt suit attire.) Even more, more stunning, the fact that Barbara Walters joined media heavyweights like Diane Sawyer and Anderson Cooper in the front row for an anchor person spectacle in the front row at DVF.

Jenna Dewan and Kristin Cavallari at Rachel Roy
Jenna Dewan left the hubby at home to hang out with Kristin Cavallari at the Rachel Roy show. We love the dresses, they fit the gals perfectly, and the orange-white two tone dress is nice on Dewan…until we notice that her shoes match the skirt and the whole thing just becomes too much!

Nina Dobrev and Camila Alves in Monique Lhuillier
It’s pretty cool that Camila Alves has started coming out of Matthew McConaughey‘s shadow after two kids. We know that being his partner has made her super famous, but she is a beauty and she can totally work it to her advantage. She also seems super sweet. Another celeb that seems super sweet is Nina Dobrev, who became a front row fixture this season at her first New York Fashion Week. For some reason, Monique Lhuillier decided to dress up her celeb attendees in bright, bright colors, a strange twist considering her Fall 2012 collection is completely and totally black, red, gold, silver and purple. Not a neon color in the slightest. The girls do look darling, though.

Dakota Fanning at Marc Jacobs
Dakota Fanning looked darling in ice blue in the front row at the Marc Jacobs show for Fall/Winter 2012-2013. Still, despite the dress being really, really special (it IS MJ after all,) we think the collection this season totally outdid her. In fact, it totally outdid everybody and blew us out of the water. See for yourself here.

Maria Sharapova at Marc Jacobs
Also at Marc Jacobs, one sparkly Maria Sharapova, who was in the front row for more than one show this season. Not quite as appealing as Dakota Fanning but nice, nonetheless.

Leighton Meester at Vera Wang
Was Leighton Meester really wearing Lovestruck at the Vera Wang show? She tweeted she was, and she is the face of the Vera Wang fragrance so it would make sense. But we didn’t get a whiff just to be sure. Did you? In any case, it’s obvious that Meester is wearing a custom made something or other from Vera Wang’s newest Fall/Winter 2012-2013 line. If you saw the collection on the runway, you would see for yourself. Bright and interesting color combinations, but unfortunately not as amazing as other Vera collections. But at least she’s not making a gown this time for one Kim Kardashian.

Snooki and Angela Simmons at Bebe Black
I know not all of us are fans of Snooki’s fashion sense but we’ve got to hand it to her–for a girl that likes to walk around in fur Uggs, this outfit is fairly covered up, nice, and still statement-making in that bright blue way. Also, kudos to the interesting padded jacket worn by Angela Simmons with more blue, a bag this time, and for looking nicer than a lot of other celebs at bigger named shows. This fashion show is for Bebe Black presented by the retail brand Bebe.

The Grammys do two things for fashion. 1) They prove that music stars don’t know how to dress and 2) They prove that music stars try really REALLY hard to make a statement (ahem Lady Gaga, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, MIA, etc., etc., etc.) We never know what to expect when the Grammys come around, especially when Gaga is in attendance, for instance, so when stars actually dress well it’s like a breath of fresh air. Not all of them did, so before we get into the crazy looks of the evening, let’s pay homage to the ones that did. Here are the best dressed at the 2012 Grammy Awards followed by the bizarre fashion we’ve become privy to.
Glamour Girls

Julianne Hough in Kaufman Franco
Julianne Hough does look stunning. Another one of those cases where the girlfriend outshines the musician (or in this case, music industry) boyfriend.

Jessie J in Julien MacDonald
Singer Jessie J said she looked like a disco ball. We concur.

Kelly Rowland in Alberta Ferretti
In a night of music get-ups that we love to hate, this was so completely refreshing. Since Beyonce wasn’t there (and even if she was) we think Kelly Rowland told sold it for the Destiny’s Child crew.

Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad
The princess of country music always looks like she’s in a fairy tale. Wearing Zuhair Murad stepped it up a notch, adding some dimension to her style with hand embroidery and lavishness. No wonder Swift remarked that this outfit was among her favorites in her short span of couture.

Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward
Still don’t understand that gray hair, but the dress is decent.

Rihanna in Giorgio Armani
I know Rihanna was trying to make a new statement with this jaw-dropping low-cut gown but it’s relatively simple by Rihanna standards (and sort of classy in a really sexy way.) Also, am I the only one who is reminded of J.Lo’s stint at the 2000 Grammys when she wore that low-cut jungle print number by Versace that got tongues wagging?

Adele in Giorgio Armani
Classic, modest, beautiful, spectacular. No words to describe this Adele getup except understated glamour. Adele killed it tonight and she didn’t need her dress to do it after winning six Grammys and having a killer performance on stage after a comeback. (She had vocal cord surgery.) We’re still wondering why she wore retail value Aldo shoes with this dress but we’ll let that one slide…

Taraji P Henson in Basler
Don’t like the animal prints so much, but unique pink color and nice fit pulls it from the depths of worst dressed hell!

Lily Aldridge in Gucci
Much in the way Emily Blunt outshined husband John Krasinski when she wore that showstopping green Oscar de la Renta number, Lily Aldridge outshines her Kings of Leon hubby with this gorgeous print maxi from Gucci. Never seen a pregnant woman look better!

Kathy Griffin in Michael Kors
Kathy Griffin may have a loud mouth but she also has a beautiful body and she showed it off with this fantastic one-shoulder ruched gown from Michael Kors! She looks like a Grecian goddess. Well done, Kathy!

Paris Hilton in Basil Soda
Paris Hilton suddenly thinks she’s a music star? At least her dress was pretty and not over-the-top.

Carrie Underwood in Gomez-Gracia
Shiny, beautiful. Enough said.
Bizarre (or in Second City Style’s words: WTF Were They Thinking?!)

Lady Gaga
They say this is tame by Gaga standards, but she’s dressed as a black robot…with a face mask…and carrying a scepter. Yikes!

Sasha Gradiva
Who is Sasha Gradiva and why does she have a gun attached to her arm?

Fergie in Jean Paul Gaultier
Tangerine lace couture dress = hot mess and yes, while we love Jean Paul Gaultier, this was not the dress for Fergie to wear. Plus, she underlined it with a black bikini just like in the Spring/Summer 2012 haute couture runway show. As in straight off the runway. As in, not cool. As in, Fergie, you’re trying too hard.

Nicki Minaj in Versace
We should have known this was Versace from the face emblem on the cloak. Similar to Donatella’s stunning Spring/Summer 2012 collection. But this red mess was no stunner. We know Nicki Minaj is a diva like Donatella but she went too far bringing this fake pope to the scene. Sometimes I wish she’d just stop trying to be Gaga and start looking beautiful.

Katy Perry in Elie Saab
Liked this number on the runway when Arizona Muse was wearing it, and it might have looked OK on Katy, too, if she didn’t match her hair to the dress. Not sure if she should have dyed it bright pink or lavender, but this look is a no-no. But hey, it’s the Grammys!

Even if you’re worried about what to wear, you can never go wrong with red. Red is the color of fire, power, vitality, and in the case of the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, it’s the color to bring awareness to heart disease, which it has every year since it began 10 years ago.
New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012-2013 is upon us and not a moment too soon! We can always count on the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection to give us hope through its charity, but also to lighten up our moods watching lovely ladies slink down the red carpet in designer red dresses. The celebs who participate are no runway models, but they certainly bring lightness and laughter to every step as they swoosh in lavish red dresses by top designers for a good cause.
This year, the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection is celebrating its 10th year by making this runway show an ode to the red dress as a symbol of awareness for heart disease. “Sometimes we think heart disease is a man’s problem, but it’s actually a big problem for us,” says Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican actress who walked in the show wearing stunning Oscar de la Renta. “I’m just happy and honored to be part of this wonderful cause,” says actress Jeanette Torres-Alvarez, who walks the runway along with big names like Rebecca Romijn and Minka Kelly.
While yes, the show is for a good cause, there were some fun moments. Christie Brinkley swooshed her Pamela Roland dress (and almost fell!) Chaka Khan was the queen of them all (check out the photos!) and Gloria Estefan had a bouffant that rocked our world! And so while the spectacle went on, we had to pick out our favorite dresses from the bunch. Because, hey, why the hell not?

Patti Stanger in Marc Bouwer
Patti Stanger is no stranger to making a statement. And we don’t always love what comes out of her mouth. But this time, we think she may have gotten it right. Although the voluminous ball gown skirt was a sight to our sore eyes (yes, Fashion Week just started, but we’re already tired,) those sharp shoulders sure made a grand entrance (and a good one at that.) Can’t say the same about the cleavage or the rest of the gown. Still, props to Marc Bouwer for honing in on the architectural power shoulder trend. We’ll always love that one.

Gloria Estefan in Narciso Rodriguez
Still can’t get enough of that bouffant hairdo! While the dress itself was pretty conventional, even for Narciso Rodriguez, I do love the way it cuts Gloria Estefan just right. It’s also totally age appropriate which a few of the other stars on the runway were lacking (ahem Christie Brinkley, Chaka Khan!) Beautiful creation for a beautiful woman.

Rose McGowan in Roberto Cavalli
Kinda hating the way Rose McGowan looks right now, but the dress itself is a stunner! Roberto Cavalli definitely knows how to dress a woman. The across-the-shoulder strap was Grecian goddess gorgeous but the mixed sequin and silk fabrics made the dress very modern, in addition to the slit and the power red color. Work it, girl!

Rebecca Romijn in Marchesa
Swirly, frothy, frilly, princess. Yes, we do love a good Marchesa. Rebecca Romijn certainly sells it. It’s no wonder she opened the show this year. Especially loving the cape and the pinched leaves accentuating the bust.

Giselle Blondet in Oscar de la Renta
Bow down to Oscar! Oscar can do no wrong! While I had never heard of Giselle Blondet before this event, she certainly overpowered some of the others because her dress was just so easy, so beautiful, so red carpet worthy! It fit her in all the right places, and yes, I know Oscar de la Renta saved it for the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection event and it’s probably one-of-a-kind but I could certainly see it on any A-list celeb on any A-list celeb at a major awards show!
While many of the dresses weren’t so great (we wished Minka Kelly would have worn something sleeveless and just what was that drop-waist droopy thing on Jennifer Nettles), these are the other dresses that did it for me!

Chaka Khan in Chris March Design

La La Anthony in Rachel Roy

Aisha Taylor in Badgley Mischka
It was a lovely evening, to say the least!

Jennifer Connelly
I was just thinking about Jennifer Connelly the other day. And how, despite the fact that she is so stunningly beautiful, she always seems to wind up with the most undeserving guys in her movies. In He’s Just That Into You, Bradley Cooper totally cheats, as does Patrick Wilson in Little Children. She has to deal with Russell Crowe’s severe issues in A Beautiful Mind, and don’t even get us started on Jared Leto in Requiem For a Dream (we ALL remember how that turned out…). Of course in real life Connelly has one of those rare, beautiful marriages to Paul Bettany that we all hope to someday have. And now she has even more reason to flash that million dollar smile since Shiseido has named her as their first global spokesperson for the flagship brand.
The Japanese beauty brand is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year and naming Connelly as a worldwide face is part of their plans for continuing growth. This year marks our 140th anniversary and it is our intention to look to the future and continue to inspire women around the globe,” said Hiroshi Maruyama, general manager of the international marketing department at Shiseido Co. Ltd. Connelly’s first major job in her new role is to front the campaigns for Shiseido’s Future Solution LX premium skin care line.
Connelly was launched to super stardom as a teenager after playing heroine Sarah in the 80′s cult classic fantasy film, Labyrinth with beloved Jim Henson puppets and of course, the legendary Billy Idol. And apparently, her relationship with Shiseido started way back then, as she told WWD, ““I’ve had a long relationship with Shiseido — I worked with them in the Eighties on an ad campaign, and have been using their products ever since. It’s nice to reconnect with them after so many years.” Connelly just completed shooting her first ad campaign for the Future Solution LX premium skin care line, which will debut in the fall.

Lana Del Ray
Wondering who that smoky-voiced vamp was on SNL the other weekend? Curious as to who this girl EVERYONE is currently to on Spotfy is? Why, it’s Lana Del Ray and British Vogue would like you to meet her. The U.K. fashion tome raised some eyebrows yesterday when they put the emerging vocal sensation on the cover of their March issue, a big ticket issue for the year and one usually reserved for mainstream faces and household names. But nevertheless, there she is. A willowy figure and what New York Magazine calls “hauntingly vacant blue eyes” staring out at you from the otherwise pink and girly front cover.
And like every overnight sensation, Del Ray is dealing with her fair share of lovers and haters in the music world. Some critics are panning her album and already yawning over her sultry singles. But in the fashion world, editors and designers alike are just starting to perk up their ears. Editor in Chief of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, stood by her choice, noting in her editor’s letter. “I am many of the thousands of people enraptured by the throaty, seductive voice of Lana Del Rey … Once I had seen Lana play at a small event in London, I was convinced that she would be a great Vogue cover girl, even though she is probably one of the newest stars in her field that the magazine has ever had on the cover.”
As far as Del Ray’s personal style, she did touch on her preference to stay unfussy in her Vogue cover interview, saying “If I’m going to be on television, I guess I should wear something nice, but that’s as far as it goes.” well, now that she is officially a cover girl, we hope she’s able to rise to the title. What do you think, dear readers? Is it refreshing to see an up and coming star on such a major magazine cover? Or is she still too unknown to be held in the spotlight?

Kate Middleton has had a fantastic year. Yeah, she has great hair, fantastic style, the most talked about wedding just about ever, and a scrumptious husband, but best of all she was named “Hat Person of the Year” by The Headwear Association. Princess Kate won the race with 91% of the votes. Followed behind her were Rachel Zoe, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, and Charlie Sheen.
Previous winners include Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt, but this year we fully support Kate as the winner! Congrats, and here’s to many more fierce hat opportunities.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards may not have the acclaim of its awards show counterparts: The Golden Globes and the Oscars, but it’s quickly building a name for itself with a stellar showing of top stars at each presentation ever year. And of course, there’s that idea that every actor and actress referred to on the red carpet when they were nominated and up for an award. This, of course, was the idea that these actors, actresses, and performances were nominated by their very own peers–the members of the Screen Actors Guild.
There are things I love about the Screen Actors Guild. The fact is, the Golden Globes may have someone like Ricky Gervais making jokes but no one gets loud and loose like they do at the Screen Actors Guild. And yes, this not only refers to their one-line zingers (we all heard about that Bridesmaids drinking game featuring Martin Scorsese) but also to their clothing. There was a lot of risk-taking going on at the SAGs this year. Perhaps the nominees are saving their glam looks for the Oscars coming up, but they’re certainly eyeing up the simple and statement-making, but also risk-taking looks for the SAGs right now. There was a lot of Calvin Klein Collection at the awards show this year, but there was also many unique get ups that worked (Rose Byrne’s Elie Saab jumpsuit) and didn’t (Busy Phillips looking, well BUSY, in prints.)
COLOR
Before I get into the real “risk-takers” at this event, I first wanted to present some of the bold color choices picked by the stars that made a statement for their hues rather then their hems. After all, color can be just as important as fabric and style for a star to look truly dashing.

Julie Bowen in Temperley London
At first, I wasn’t sure I liked this dress because of the sleeves. It was ACTUALLY the color that sold me! Well done, Julie Bowen!

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein Collection
Jessica Chastain is certainly a star in the making! From the news heard ’round the world that she learned of her Oscar nomination during the Armani Prive show to this gorgeous blue Calvin Klein gown, this actress can do no wrong! The dress just fits her perfectly.

Jane Lynch in David Meister
OK, no one can say that Jane Lynch will ever be a style icon, and certainly not in the same category as Glenn Close, Helen Mirren, or Meryl Streep, but I can’t say I hate this dress. I do like the color and the fact that a woman that is not known for being feminine is trying to play up her femininity. Perhaps more jewelry on the neckline would have been nicer.

Dianne Agron in Carolina Herrera
Here’s what people said about the Glee cast: Lea Michele was trying to upstage everyone with her uniquely cut dress, while Dianne Agron seemed to hum along with a beautiful color and a serene smile on her face. I do like how she’s not trying to outdo anyone but still wearing a beautiful raspberry color.

Emily Blunt in Oscar de la Renta
Here’s the big surprise of the evening: Emily Blunt! Blunt only tagged along to husband John Krasinski, who was nominated as part of The Office. While John tried to do it up with a navy blue tuxedo, it was Emily Blunt who stole the show with this bright green Oscar de la Renta dress that wowed the crowd perhaps more than some of the award winners! Talk about going all out and looking great at the same time!
BEADS AND TEXTURE
Another unique and interesting trend at this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards was the use of beading and texture to speak for the dresses. While bright colors, mermaid and ball gown hems interesting necklines are beautiful, they show up every year. Beading and texture on a dress does not. Which is why it was so appealing to see it on so many of the stars this year.

Berenice Bejo in Ralph Lauren Collection

Julianna Margulies in Calvin Klein Collection
While Julianna Margulies typically wears column dresses that accentuate her thin, beautiful figure, there’s always something that makes those sheaths stand out. At the 2012 Golden Globes, it was the shine on her purple Naeem Khan dress. At the Screen Actors Guild last year, it was a plunging sweetheart neckline on a red YSL gown. This year, she chose Calvin Klein, who I assumed would make her a beautiful minimalist gown that accentuated her best features. While he certainly did that, he also added embroidery to texture the dress which served its purpose as much as the beading on other gowns did.

Naya Rivera in Naeem Khan

Katrina Bowden in Amsale
The Amsale dress–kinda boring. But the floral tulle overlay says it all.

Ashlee Simpson in Jenny Packham

Jayma Mays in Reema Acra
CUTOUTS
For better or for worse? The cutouts trend made an unexpected return to the red carpet. As long as they are well-placed and in the appropriate places, I don’t mind them. What do you think?

Amber Heard in Zac Posen

Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Minkoff

Kyra Sedgwick in Emilio Pucci
DIPS AND DRAPING
Not the best looks of the night, but I do like the daring dips and the unique draping elements in these gowns. This is what make them stand out during the evening.

Angelina Jolie in Jenny Packham

Melissa McCarthy in Badgley Mischka
SLEEVES
Ahh, the return of sleeves. At first I thought Michelle Williams had something unique on her hands when she decided to go long in a beautifully textured, but conservative Jason Wu dress at the 2012 Golden Globes. I was not surprised to see her wearing sleeves again at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and I have a feeling she will come back with it at the Oscars. But alas, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and suddenly, sleeves are the “thing to do” at awards show.

Michelle Williams in Valentino

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

Meryl Streep in Vivienne Westwood
Sleeves, yes. Grey color, yes. Vivienne Westwood, yes. Brown belt, NO.
SWEETHEART NECKLACES AND TEA DRESSES
Perhaps a throwback to the 50s? Sweetheart necklines and tea dresses came out to shine at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but with a modern twist.

Kaley Cuoco in Romona Keveza

Sofia Vergara in Marchesa

Viola Davis in Marchesa

Ariel Winter in Collette Dinnigen

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen
THE DARING AND THE BEAUTIFUL
These lovely ladies wowed us with looks that might have failed on others, but worked on them. Yes, Lea Michele was on overkill, but I had to include her on this list.

Lea Michele in Versace

Rose Byrne in Elie Saab
Normally I would see someone in a glittery jumpsuit and I would scream, “Fashion no no!” But something won me over about this look on Rose Byrne by Elie Saab. Perhaps it was the fact that it was Elie Saab. No, that can’t be because some designers looked atrocious on other stars. And then I realized it was because while absolutely stunning, Rose Byrne was also having fun with this look—going for a complete 70s moment with the short bob and bangs and the palazzo pants. And it fit her perfectly!

Emilia Clarke in Chanel
WORST DRESSED
And now for the looks that killed the show! In the words of Second City Style, “WTF were they thinking?!”

Amber Riley in Badgley Mischka
I love Badgley Mischka, but apparently they don’t know how to design for plus-size women? Who would put a large bow on a woman who already has a large chest? While yes, in theory, the dress fit her well and we do like that she went with the knee-length, that HUGE bow is so distracting that it kills the whole look .

Busy Phillips in SIMONE by Katie Nehra
In the words of the Red Carpet Fashion Awards, “The dress would be perfect for a casual afternoon in LA or a more laidback event like the ‘Independent Spirit Awards’, but it’s far too casual for a major awards ceremony.” Not to mention that the print is fairly ugly and the dress doesn’t have flatter her at all! Enough said!

Heather Morris in Masai Payan
For some reason, Heather Morris thinks she’s at the world premiere of Grease. I’m not sure what’s up with her Sandra Dee after the makeover getup but it doesn’t work for the SAGs.

Shailene Woodley in L'Wren Scott
While Shailene Woodley wowed us at the Golden Globes in glittery Marchesa, this dress doesn’t do it for her. Again, a casual look at a hi-profile event. Yes, we get it, Shailene. You wanted to go with a tropical print theme similar to the setting of your movie The Descendents. It just doesn’t work here.

Happy days are here again!
It seems that MAC has signed another fashion favorite. It was just released that unconventional fashion icon and Gossip singer Beth Ditto has signed on with MAC Cosmetics to create a limited-edition collection.
Judging by the first promotional photo, we can expect some bright, fun colors (eye shadows and maybe a hint of body colors?) and lots of black eyeliners. I don’t think any of us would mind that.
Look for the collection to hit MAC in June 2012!

I think we are finally seeing the demise of the Kardashian klan! Finally!
SCS reported earlier that the Kardashians were planning on releasing their own magazine dedicated to everything Kardashian, all the time. Well, in an event that surprised no one, that idea was demolished and the only person to blame is head mistress Kris Jenner. Sources told Page Six that the deal turned sour after Jenner demanded she have editorial approval over every American Media Inc. publication to ensure wall-to-wall positive coverage.
With no surprise, there has been a lot of in-house fighting between Jenner and AMI. “AMI chief David Pecker made it clear that there was no way he was going to tell his editors what stories they could and couldn’t do,” our source said. In turn, Jenner started pulling Kardashian-related product ads from Star Magazine.
According to sources, AMI executives refused to just take “Kardashian krap,” noting that while they have a television deal with E!, other outlets often get better scoops on the family. Finally! Someone who gets us all! Please put a stop to this madness! Exclamation points galore!!!
