Robert Verdi to Launch His Signature Shades on HSN Tonight!

0 / February 22, 2012 2:00 pm

Here I am trying on Robert's Sunglasses during New York Fashion Week

Our hysterical friend and celebrity style guru, Robert Verdi is launching…what else? His first ever sunglass collection on HSN tonight and tomorrow! I have never seen Robert without his trademark sunglasses affixed to his bald head, so it only seems natural he develop and sell his OWN exclusive collection of sunglasses.

Famous for his celebrity clientele including Eva Longoria, Bethenny Frankel, Kathy Griffin, Hugh Jackman, Kristin Wiig, Joy Behar and Sandra Bernhard; you can expect an entertaining and hilarious segment when he brings his expert style advice to HSN viewers.

Robert’s premier sunglass collection includes a wide assortment of current and upcoming trends. I was able to try several pairs on during New York Fashion Week and was  not only amazed at the style, variety and quality, but the price! They all cost under $40!

Robert Verdi “Teri” Mod Round with Metallic Trim, $29.90

Robert Verdi “Allison” Square Plastic Crystal, $24.90

Robert Verdi “Peggy” Mod Square with Print Logo, $24.90

“Eva” Matte Plastic and Metal Aviator with Color Rim, $24.90

Robert Verdi “Joanna” Geo Metal with Enamel Inlay, $29.90

“Every woman should have a wardrobe of sunglasses to wear with different outfits,” says Robert. “Sunglasses are the perfect way to add flare to your style, and make everyone feel like a movie star, no matter what else you’re wearing. That’s why I’m bringing these sunglasses to HSN at a great price.”

I had the opportunity to speak to Robert about trends in sunglasses for Spring 2012. He told me, “My goal in developing this line was to make sure every woman could afford several pairs of sunglasses. Every woman should have a wardrobe of sunglasses to wear with different outfits. Sunglasses are the perfect way to add flare to your style, and make everyone feel like a movie star, no matter what else you’re wearing. That’s why I’m bringing these sunglasses to HSN at a great price.”

Then I asked him which styles are musts. “I think every woman should have the following three frames this spring/summer: 1. a colorful aviator like my “Eva” 2. A clear neutral frame like my “Sasha” 3. An unexpected glamour frame with an undefinable geometric shape like my “Joanna”. I particularity love this style because it has a gradient lens which means you can check people out and gossip with your friends over lunch!”

All of the sunglasses are named after Robert’s star clientele. Mind you, I am still waiting for the “Lauren” which in my dreams would be a smaller cat-eye (very Tom Fordish). Robert assured me they would be in his second collection. Ahem.

At any rate, I’ll be watching Robert tonight on HSN at 10pm EST. He will also be on tomorrow (February 23) at 7am and 5pm EST. Set your DVR!

Trending for Spring 2012: The Peplum

0 / February 22, 2012 11:00 am

The peplum (a short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress) made popular in the 40′s & 50′s by designers like Dior seems to reappear as a trend every decade or so. So it should be no surprise the peplum is back in a major way for Spring ’12. It was seen on the spring runway of Louis Vuitton, Balmain, Vera Wang, Thakoon, Jason Wu and a handful of others. The peplum is the perfect foil for disguising a little extra poundage around the middle. However, avoid a peplum skirt if you have wide hips. It will only make them appear larger. You will notice there is no escaping the peplum this spring, so why try? Here are 10 peplum options we are loving right now:

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Ellsworth Striped Cotton and Taffeta Dress $460

2. Tibi Peplum-Waist Striped Cotton Jacket $495

4. Carven Cotton-Jersey and Organza Peplum Top $265

5. Givenchy Peplum Dress $2,695

6. Paprika Peplum Dress $57.30

7. Marni Embellished Silk-Crepe Peplum Dress $1,386

Trending For Spring 2012: Silver Shoes

1 / February 10, 2012 9:00 am

I had an opportunity to discuss Spring 2012 accessory trends with Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing last month in NYC. One trend he said would be essential for Spring/Summer 2012 is a pair or two of silver shoes (he also said white shoes, but as a woman with a size 9 foot…THAT scares the hell out of me). Well just as he predicted, silver shoes are everywhere! Now, I’m not talking gunmetal, but straight up silver. So knock yourself and your friends out by being the first on the block to sport this new spring neutral. Silver shoes will compliment just about everything in your wardrobe. The Thing I Am Loving Today: Helene Berman Wide-Brimmed Hat

0 / February 7, 2012 4:48 pm

With winter still upon us, it can be challenging to still look cute while freezing outside. I have always been an admirer of hats, and this Helene Berman wide brimmed hat stole my attention. Hats have the ability to transform a whole look, and keep your head well covered when you’re having a bad hair day. Since we have a few more months of cold weather, this wide brimmed hat can spice up the grey winter days ahead of us.

Outfit Of The Day for February 2, 2012. Quick Change From Work To Play

0 / February 2, 2012 11:00 am

A quick way to change a look is to simply swap out the bottom half, in this case my pants and shoes! This blouse is … J Lo from Kohls! If you ever have shopped at Kohls you know almost everything is “take 30% off” and then with a coupon “take an extra 20% off” you pay about $20. In the case of this blouse, I thought the color made the fabric and the sleeve detail look more expensive than it was. It is a little boxy so I belted it with a leopard print scarf. I find leopard prints to be a go-to way to blend just about any color — with black! Leopard prints seem to match all skin tones and hair coloring, and can pull an outfit together in a natural way.

Top: Jennifer Lopez Pintuck Charmeuse Top, no longer available. Belt this Vanessa Bruno Crepe Satin Blouse, now $172.

Sash: My own leopard print scarf from the 80s. This Lily and Lionel Animal-print Wool Scarf, now $105 is a great value, or get this Vivienne Westwood Leopard-print Silk-chiffon Scarf, $240

Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff Black Classic M.A.C. Clutch, $295

For Work Look:

Pants: Rachel Roy True Waist Cuffed Pants, now 70% off, $103.50

Shoes: Chloe Platform Pumps, no longer available. I’m loving these Nicholas Kirkwood Hidden Platform Pumps, Now $317.99.

For Play Look:

Jeans: Kitson Black Jeans, no longer available. See these Citizens of Humanity Elson Medium Black Skinny Leg Jeans, $174

Boots: Robert Clergerie Leather Bootsno longer available. These Robert Clergerie Women’s Timot Over-the-Knee Boot, $329.59 have a rubber sole, which is great for wet weather.

Trending For Spring 2012: The Pointy-Toe Flat

0 / February 1, 2012 1:00 pm

I will never forget my first pair of pointy toe flats. I was in high school and bought a pair in army green. I wore them to death. Literally. One day while I was at school (a day I obviously wasn’t wearing them) my mother discarded them since they were beyond repair. I have yet to forgive her. So needless to say, I am so excited they are back for Spring 2012 and I can continue to live out my teenage shoe dream. Or is it a nightmare? You know what they say. If you wore the trend once, you shouldn’t wear it again. But in this case I think we are safe. It’s just a shoe style. Nothing like wearing “Hammer” pants again. So give your feet a break and get yourself a pair of pointy toe flats. You will be too cool for school and your feet will thank you. Here are 10 pairs of pointy toe flats we are loving now:

1. Tibi Women’s Misha Flats W/ Pointed Toe $227.12

2. Hampton by Sam Edelman $110

Trending For Spring 2012: Tangerine Dream

1 / January 31, 2012 12:00 pm
