Trending for Spring 2012: The Peplum

0 / February 22, 2012 11:00 am

The peplum (a short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress) made popular in the 40′s & 50′s by designers like Dior seems to reappear as a trend every decade or so. So it should be no surprise the peplum is back in a major way for Spring ’12. It was seen on the spring runway of Louis Vuitton, Balmain, Vera Wang, Thakoon, Jason Wu and a handful of others. The peplum is the perfect foil for disguising a little extra poundage around the middle. However, avoid a peplum skirt if you have wide hips. It will only make them appear larger. You will notice there is no escaping the peplum this spring, so why try? Here are 10 peplum options we are loving right now:

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Ellsworth Striped Cotton and Taffeta Dress $460

2. Tibi Peplum-Waist Striped Cotton Jacket $495

4. Carven Cotton-Jersey and Organza Peplum Top $265

5. Givenchy Peplum Dress $2,695

6. Paprika Peplum Dress $57.30

7. Marni Embellished Silk-Crepe Peplum Dress $1,386

8. Miss Selfridge Purple Peplum Dress £39.00

Trending For Spring 2012: Silver Shoes

1 / February 10, 2012 9:00 am

I had an opportunity to discuss Spring 2012 accessory trends with Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing last month in NYC. One trend he said would be essential for Spring/Summer 2012 is a pair or two of silver shoes (he also said white shoes, but as a woman with a size 9 foot…THAT scares the hell out of me). Well just as he predicted, silver shoes are everywhere! Now, I’m not talking gunmetal, but straight up silver. So knock yourself and your friends out by being the first on the block to sport this new spring neutral. Silver shoes will compliment just about everything in your wardrobe. Trending For Spring 2012: The Pointy-Toe Flat

0 / February 1, 2012 1:00 pm

I will never forget my first pair of pointy toe flats. I was in high school and bought a pair in army green. I wore them to death. Literally. One day while I was at school (a day I obviously wasn’t wearing them) my mother discarded them since they were beyond repair. I have yet to forgive her. So needless to say, I am so excited they are back for Spring 2012 and I can continue to live out my teenage shoe dream. Or is it a nightmare? You know what they say. If you wore the trend once, you shouldn’t wear it again. But in this case I think we are safe. It’s just a shoe style. Nothing like wearing “Hammer” pants again. So give your feet a break and get yourself a pair of pointy toe flats. You will be too cool for school and your feet will thank you. Here are 10 pairs of pointy toe flats we are loving now:

1. Tibi Women’s Misha Flats W/ Pointed Toe $227.12

Trending For Spring 2012: Tangerine Dream

1 / January 31, 2012 12:00 pm

I used to have a fear of the color orange, until I realized you could call it “tangerine” and that it looks good on just about every skintone. Now I love it. Good thing because the color tangerine is big for Spring 2012. Trending For Spring 2012: The Uneven Hem (The Long & The Short of It)

0 / January 26, 2012 12:00 pm

Every where I turn I am seeing this uneven hem (or hi-lo, asymmetrical) on Spring 2012 skirts and dresses. I’m still undecided if I like it as it reminds me of a mullet. You know “business in the front, party in the back” only in reverse. Lets’ face it, a mullet is NEVER good. The front is cut like a mini and the back is cut like a maxi. Perfect for those who can’t commit and have great legs. So I have henceforth nicknamed this style “The Mullet Skirt.” This trend does skew a little young, but who knows? I may warm up to it as I have known to do. You may find my this summer sporting one. Here are 10 Mullet (uneven) Hems you can buy now:

1. Elizabeth and James Claudia Cuff Dress $495

2. American Rag Dress, Sleeveless Belted Asymmetrical Hem Maxi $29.99

3. MAXAZRIA Asymmetrical Cocktail Dress $278.60

4. Sass & Bide Secret Place Sunburst Print Dress $485.00

5. Rory Beca Eric Gown $130

6. Hi Lo Maxi by Lanston $158

Trending Spring 2012: Crazy Pants

0 / January 25, 2012 1:00 pm

Has winter got you feeling a little drab? Why not perk up your wardrobe by adding a little pattern to your life this spring? Try what I like to call “crazy pants” or patterned pants. The wilder the patter, the better. Think abstract or floral pants. The brighter, the better. And better still…any cut will do. If you are not happy with the bottom half of your body, you may want to skip this trend. This look is not for the faint of heart and it goes without saying, the rest of your outfit should be solid. Leave the mix-matched prints to the experts (or those under 30). You want to look sophisticated, not drunk. Here are 10 pairs of crazy pants we are loving now:

1. Étoile Isabel Marant Velvet Printed Pants $239

2. Vero Moda Very Printed Pants $29.54

3. By Malene Birger Dani Printed Pants $375

7. Elson Leopard Silk-Crepe Tapered Pants $396

$26.86
