Outfit Of The Day For November 28, 2012: When Matchy-Matchy Works

When I put this look together, I thought my bright turquoise handbag in the same exact color as my coat (kiss of death) was  “too matchy-matchy.” And on top of that, the tan trim of the bag matchy-matched the soles of my shoes (eek!) and my hair! But I realized that matchy-matchy can be okey-dokey when it is a tone-on-tone look. We wear black on black, so why not wear crazy-bright blue with crazy-bright blue? What would have been too matchy-matchy would have actually been if I carried a black bag with tan trim to match the shoes, right?

Coat: Hanii Y, no longer available. I could not find Superman blue, but this Milly Claudine Coat in Helio, $645 is super bright.

Handbag: Blue haircalf and tan leather clutch, no longer available. See this Coach Legacy Pinnacle Large Flap Clutch, $398 to match the Milly coat, above.

Jeans: Black Kitson Jeans, no longer available, similar to 7 For All Mankind The Black Skinny Jeans, $158.

Sweater: V-neck Cashmere Sweater, no longer available. See this Vince V-Neck Sweater, $176.98.

Shoes: 3.1 Phillip Lim Beau Wedge Fur Lined Shoe, no longer available. See these Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Lace Up Wedge Booties, $295.

  1. City Journal says:

Your blog is great. Two things I like about the post, one it is straight forward and two it does not attempt to promote anyone’s position particularly. Well put Carol.
