I know it’s hard to think about the holidays when you are enjoying summer, but that doesn’t stop New York’s accessories trade shows which concluded last week. If you thought everyone looked ‘bedazzled’ last year, just wait.

According to WWD, metallics are still faring
strongly in hosiery and handbags, while oversize, colorful wrist pieces
round out fall and holiday jewelry.

Novelty legwear remained in high
demand for holiday, while socks were turning out to be a major player
for spring.

"Our biggest news is the trouser sock with fancy
tops," said Ed Miccinati, design director for StockinGirl. "All these
starlets I’ve seen out and about in L.A. and here are wearing them.
They’re wearing only one at a time or pairing them with sandals or a
pump. It’s very California." (Yikes!)

Patent leather and metallics are still hot trends for fall, along with animal prints and embossed leather."We’re working a lot in prints like zebra and giraffe, and snake
patterns," said Gil Mannarini, brand director for Elite Models’ Fashion
Bags, the retail division of the agency. "Patents are also strong for
us in reds and blacks."

the clutch category, Lorelei’s natural python pieces in rose gold and
pewter palettes are the big sellers for resort and holiday. "Our texturized metallics are strong, as well as our bow python bags," said designer Laurie Kaufman.

is the new neutral," said Stacey Pecor, president of retailer Olive
& Bette’s. "Before, it was a fashion item. Now, people are so used
to it, it’s seasonless. It looks great with white jeans in the summer
and sparkles up holiday."

The strongest collections were gray, black and
white. The bracelet is also the season’s major jewelry piece, with
firms offering the wide cuff in a variety of styles, as well as
stackable bangles.

"This holiday is about the wrist," said Brad
Frey, president at showroom DP Accessories. "People are doing multiple
cuffs or one big statement piece."
