Beauty Beat. Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara is Snob Worthy. Second City Style Fashion & Beauty Blog

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a mascara snob. I tried Maybelline Great Lash mascara (you know the one in the pink and green tube that all the makeup artists use?) years ago and hated it. I didn’t get the hype. Since I wear contacts I swore off drugstore brands years ago as my last encounter left me with a dry clump in my eye. So over the years I have bounced from Lancome, to Chanel to Tarte to Dior. I have been quite happy being the high-end mascara whore that I am, but the price tag gets a little undaunting. I thought I was relegated to shelling out $20+ for a great mascara.

A couple of weeks ago I received a tube of the new Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara
in a gift bag. I almost tossed it into my "giveaway" pile but thought, why not try it? Besides, the green tube is rather cool looking (It’s Second City Style green). Hey, I’m just as wooed by pretty colors as much as anyone else. The mascara promises definition and length without clumping. The ultra cool and modern
lime green tube has a unique flexible rubber brush with varying bristle
lengths to really lengthen lashes.

According to the add which you can see here on YouTube, Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara is:

  • A zero clump mascara that creates stunning length with clean definition.
  • Contact lens safe and hypoallergenic
  • Washable and waterproof formulas available

I tried it last week for the first time and didn’t care for it. If you want va-va-voom thick lashes this may not be your cup of tea. You need a thickening mascara for that and this is strictly a lengthening mascara. However, I started using it again yesterday and am now hooked. It’s the perfect "day-time" mascara.

The wand is a little unusual and tricky to use at first as it bends all over the place. However, once mastered it manges to deposit mascara on every lash which is a feat. The look is subtle yet effective. It doesn’t clump and feels natural (not sticky) on my lashes. Most of all it doesn’t flake and my lashes look long! I love seeing my lashes when I blink or when they hit my sunglass lenses…that is the true test. The $7.95 price tag doesn’t hurt either!
