Beauty Trends From NYFW Spring ’15: Makeup, Hair and Nails

Fountain of 30

September 22, 2014 • Beauty, Fashion Shows, Magazine, New York Fashion Week Spring '15

I realize it’s a little early to be thinking about next spring’s makeup trends now, but New York Fashion Week Spring ’15 just wrapped and I can’t help but obsess about some of the beauty, hair and nail trends we can expect. After all, the runways are where the trends take shape.

When it comes to makeup, the most popular look by far was the no makeup look and dewy, flawless skin. Bold eyebrows still carry over from fall ’14 as do heavily black lined eyes. Two new beauty trends that emerged were the a more muted and subtle smokey eyes in all shades such as brown, green and shades of purple. Another beauty trend I am just wild about are natural pink-stained lips.

Heavy black-lined eyes: Cushnie et Ochs, Nicholas K, Narciso Rodriguez, Oscar de la Renta, Bibhu Mohapatra, Cynthia Rowley, Libertine, Tracy Reese, Hervé Léger, Tommy Hilfiger

More muted smokey eye: Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, and Hugo Boss, Jill Stuart, Vera Wang

Hair trends, New York Fashion Week, Spring 2015

Regarding hair on the runway, the styles were all over the place. Braids are back in every form. I’m talking, side, messy, updos and buns. So is the messy, I just got out of bed style. I personally loved the knotted styles shown by Rag & Bone and 3.1 Phillip Lim. The one thing we saw almost everywhere, however, was a return to the center part.

Slicked back: Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon

Pony: Jason Wu, Oscar de la Renta, Prabal Gurung, J. Mendel, Pamella Roland, Cushnie et Ochs

Messy Pony: Tess Giberson, Mara Hoffman, Ann Yee, Honor

Braids: Donna Karan, Jeremy Scott, Peter Som, Bibhu Mohapatra (updo), Erin Fetherston (bun), DKNY, Suno, Mara Hoffman, Tome

Hair knots: Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Thakoon

Shag: Marc Jacobs, Annu Sui

Bed Head: Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriguez, Jenny Peckham, Vera Wang,  Anna Sui, Libertine

Center part: Monique Lhuillier, Michael Kors, Tibi, Alice + Olivia, Badgley Mischka, Christopher Kane, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Jill Stuart, Mara Hoffman, Narciso Rodriguez, Costello Tagliapietra

Nails NYFW Spring 2015

Great news for those of us over nail art is that, well, the trend is pretty much done. There were a few exceptions, but most of the nail art was one color over a nude base. Even though French manicures have been out for a while, the reverse French with the area around the cuticle highlighted, is intriguing. The biggest nail trend of the season though seems to be the nude nail in pinks, whites and beiges.

Reverse French (cuticle highlight): Cushnie et Ochs, Carmen Marc Valvo, Rodarte, Angel Sanchez

Double-French-tipped: Sophie Theallet, Alon Livne

One thin horizontal or vertical line: Dion Lee, Kate Spade, Nicole Miller, Nonoo

Nude with muted nail art: Wes Gordon, Tadashi Shoji, Prabal Gurung, Bibhu Mohapatra, Tracy Reese, , Tibi, Tadashi Shoji

Nude: Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander Wang, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Rebecca Taylor, Lela Rose, Jason Wu, BCBG, Noon by Noor

Pastels: Costello Tagliapietra (lilac), Tess Giberson & Angel Sanchez  & Nanette Lepore (baby blue)

Ombre: Monique Lhuillier (pink), ICB by Prabal Gurung (blue)
