On February 12, Brand Assembly’s “The New Class” presented their fall 2015 collections at YouTube Space in New York. Designers included Hunter Bell, Nikki Chasin, Caroline Constas, Maria Dora, C. Keller, and Michelle Kim. Brand Assembly helps these emerging designers launch and grow successful brands by enabling them to showcase their work in front of retailers and industry influencers.
Hunter Bell’s collection is titled “Some Girls” after her favorite Rolling Stones album. The pieces are youthful, loud and fun, and feature tribal, floral and plaid prints. The standout look is a hot pink dress with crisscrossing straps and an all-over tribal print.
Nikki Chasin experimented with the idea of a work uniform for women who work from home. Her pieces have the feeling of a sophisticated nightgown or housecoat—comfortable but still professional. Many of the looks feature high waist trousers and suede jackets, which is Chasin’s interpretation of a business suit.
1970s ski culture is the inspiration behind Caroline Constas’ collection, “Black Diamond.” The theme is conveyed through leather gloves, beanie hats, fur stoles and argyle sweaters. A floor length dress with ruffled trim and an off-the-shoulder blouse also bring a bohemian feeling to the collection.
Maria Dora’s collection, entitled “The Shadows,” is inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory and his muses. Dora wanted to embody the spirit of women like Bianca Jagger, Cornelia Guest and Debbie Harry. Although her collection is inspired by the 70s, it did not feel redundant of other collections shown this season. The chic, striped sweater dresses, turtlenecks and rib knit pants have more of a mod 60s vibe.
Modes of transportation inspired C. Keller’s collection, which she describes as “Amtrak chic.” The minimal collection features oversized blouses, pencil skirts, cropped trousers and abstract prints.
Michelle Kim’s collection derives from a desire to fill a void in her own wardrobe. The garments feature playful prints like 70s-inspired paisley and illustrated puppies.
