This Saturday your intrepid Second City Style editors attended the Green Tie Ball, one of Chicago’s premiere gala events and a symbol of the Chicago Gateway Green’s continuing commitment to the city, and although the weather was not quite conducive to high fashion (it was a chilly 50 degrees fahrenheit at this mostly-outdoor event), the extremely well-dressed crowd definitely managed to make it work.
Chic wool coats, cozy cashmere wraps, and other methods of keeping warm despite the chilly breeze were prevalent, although a few brave fashionistas showed off their shoulders in strappy gowns. Other popular accessories included metallic clutches, patent peep-toes, and black opaque tights (proving that this daytime staple can work for evening with the proper partners, like a glam little dress and sparkly shoes).
Here are some of the best-dressed Chicagoans:
Local Elite model Kristen Grzemski in a sleek silver anorak and classic little black dress.
One of the event’s coordinators, Jana Rhodes, in a flowy chiffon print halter by up and coming designer Erica Davies.
Katie is fashionably warm in a Betsey Johnson textured coat and beaded velvet scarf, and Courtney channels Chanel in a nubby ivory tweed coat.
Comcast anchor Lisa Aprati shows us how to wear this season’s trendy cropped, 3/4 sleeve a-line jackets in her winter white wool number.
Mieka Dorsey, escorted by Clayton Harris III, makes a bold statement in this dramatic black and white Jessica McClintock ballgown.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the Green Tie Ball without a few elegant green ensembles, and Jenna wore one of the best, a graceful satin number by Dina Bar-El paired with an elegant gold clutch.
Our overall Impression: We were impressed by how so many women managed to deal with the less-than-favorable temps and still look chic.
