FashionWeekDaily reports that Galliano is celebrating Dior’s 60 years of couture magic at none other than Versailles– a unmatched symbol of decadence (and destruction) around the world. The July 2nd festivities follow the 1999 Matrix show that included such combinations as liquid gel and hunting gear– certainly reeks of je ne sais quoi.– Joanne Molina for Second City Style

Dior is looking to its past in celebrating its future. John Galliano is
said to have been given access to Versailles as his backdrop for the
French fashion house’s 60th anniversary celebration on July 2.
Specifically, the show will take place at the famed Orangerie, created
by Hardouin-Mansart in 1684 and encircled by the Stairs of a Hundred
Steps. It was also the location during the July 1999 couture shows
where Dior showed its pivotal “Matrix” collection, sending out models
in tough hunting looks on a runway of liquid gel.

Meanwhile,
joining Galliano and Daphne Guinness in London as chairs for the
September 18 inaugural gala for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s
Costume Institute celebrating the upcoming exhibit, The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957, is British Vogue
editor Alexandra Shulman. The $2,000-a-head dinner for just 400 guests
features a 38-member-strong committee including Claudia Schiffer,
Donatella Versace, Karl Lagerfeld, Manolo Blahnik, Sienna Miller,
Valentino, and Vivienne Westwood.
