Fashion Week Daily just learned that Jason Wu will be launching his own cruise line to debut June 6th.
What’s the scoop? According to Angela Gaimari, Wu says “Since I started my label two years ago, my sales have become stronger and stronger each season,” said the 25-year-old designer. “I am proud to say that my sales at vendors such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Holt Renfrew have been amazing, and I thought that it would be smart to offer my customers a resort collection.”
Wu will present a capsule collection of 20 looks, focusing on pretty, wearable day and cocktail dresses. “I was inspired by Degas paintings and wanted to translate the soft and delicate qualities of his work to my clothes,” he said. The resort pieces aim to be on target with the price points of his ready-to-wear, which range from $1,500 to $5,000 wholesale.
The show will be sponsored by M.A.C, Ecru New York, and Voss.
According to Wu, it was important for him to present his designs in a runway setting as opposed to a showroom presentation. “This will give the buyers a more thorough idea of my vision,” he said. “I personally love showing my clothes on the female form. It is so different than seeing it on a hanger. I also want to take this season as seriously as fall and spring.”
Wu will model his show after a Parisian café, seating guests around the runway at small round tables surrounded by trees and flowers. "The Park’s atrium is perfect because it looks like an outdoor café in Paris, where I can imagine someone wearing the clothes talking with friends over a bottle of wine for hours on a sunny afternoon,” said Wu. “The show will be more intimate than my fashion week presentations—but no less serious."
